When Should You Consider Replacing Factory Rods?

I am building a 6.4 engine and am starting with a new short block. At what level do the stock rods become a risk? I understand that the stock pistons are fragile and will be replacing them and I thought if the rods need replacing I will do both as 1 unit.

Thanks!

Generally speaking the stock cranks do not break.  I know folks that have had 6.1 cranks in the neighborhood of 1400 and the crank never gave way.  Factory rods usually start stretching bolts around 600-650 depending.

My plan is to build a carbureted high compression engine that will more than likely never see boost. Still, if the factory rods disintegrate I will be more than happy to replace them.

Anyone have a decent set of heads for sale? lol
