08-10 Airbag Recall

2008-2010 Challengers were added to the Takata airbag recall saga yesterday (7/10/2010).  Applies to Challengers made between 9/07 and 10/2010 and doesn't specify flavor (SE/RT/SRT) so probably applies to all of them.

This should be very interesting when I have to trailer my car into the dealership for a new airbag. The car is no longer street legal and I doubt any of the service techs will know what sequence to go through in order to start the car.

Can I just have them remove the air bag altogether?

You wouldn't think that if you've ever been in a situation that needed it. I have and I am very happy it worked.

Meh, I look at it like we survived almost 100 years without air bags in cars, to me they're just more weight.  I've seriously looked at how to remove it, but as you know the wheel is made from it unfortunately.

According to the highway sign I pass on the way to work each morning, TN is now over 400 vehicle deaths for 2015.....with current technology and air bags.  Just sayin'.

Why do you still have them in a race car - they are heavy.  I pulled them years ago.

Speedy, you can pull them but you will have a few more lights on your dash to deal with .  I dont recommend pulling them on a street car, they are lifesavers!

I realize they are heavy but the fact that airbags potentially saved the lives of two close friends tells me to leave it in place. I'll give up a couple tenths of a second for the added safety.
