May buy mint '05 commander: how cheap to replace engine?

Hey fellas I'm looking at a pristine commander, fully loaded, 110k miles.. the guy wants $800 but it needs a new engine, 5.7 hemi. I've already got a money pit of a hot rod and I know nothing about modern mopars! So before I consider buying It, how much am I looking at to get a new(ish) Hemi? (low miles are fine) and since I am a gear head, are the bigger hemi's pretty much plug and play in these or is that a big ordeal with pcm's and trans?

I wonder what is meant by 'needs a new engine?" Might just need a short block. Could be looking at as low as $3500 or as much as $10,000. Pretty vague as to what is needed.

There's a fair number of guys that swap the engine when moving to a stroker or just upgrading. If you look around, you can find a more than decent short block and set of heads and just cover the core charge.

With that mileage and that year, might be a dropped valve seat. As Chuck said, depending on the damage, may be cheaper to fix or replace what is damaged. An 05-08 should plug and play. Just make sure the front accessories are in the right spot.
