After investing a small fortune in my build, I left out one fatal upgrade "Larry's Hurst Throw Rod Replacement".
In all honesty, I'd read all about it, but thought I was ok, because I had the latest version from Hurst, not so. I thought, well I haven't had a problem with this shifter for the 2 years it's been in the car, I'm good, not so.
After consulting with my tuner A.J. Hemituner, I met up with him & the new build down @ Norwalk for it's maiden voyage down the track.
1rst pass: mid 14's layin down rubber all the way across the traps.
Erik "Hemi31" reigned in my retartedness & had me drop the air to 18 psi.
2nd pass: 11.375 I'm lovin it!
A.J. Hemituner laid down some magic & Josh from HHP had me remove the air filter.
3rd pass: Car planted & dead hooked with the best launch it had all weekend, lot more power pulling through the gears, shifting out of 3rd to 4th, I got wayyyyy too excited, because I knew the #'s were going to be crazy & a pb, that's when the very last thing I expected to happen, happened! The entire shifter busted off & the trans went to neutral & the 392 Maggie Charger that I had left in the dust, blew right past me. I wound up with a 12.686 coasting across the traps in neutral @ 81.47 mph. ![]()
HemiSam found out about the carnage & immediately put me in direct contact with Larry, who not only sold me a throw rod mod, but once he found out Sam sent me to him & my car was down with a broken rod, he took the rod out of his personal car & shipped it to me, because he was out of stock. 3 days later I was back in business & shifting firmer than ever.
Two words for the construction of the mod "Bullet Proof". One word for this vendors customer service "Amazing"
If you have a 6spd & you don't have this mod, you better get it & fast or it could bite you in the ass when you least expect it.
