Some people were saying that the '13 hemi RAMs had a new, skinny oil filter.  I did my first oil change and my truck had the same MO-899 filter as the '12s.  It's a bit of a bear to get to with the new electric steering but it fits nice.

One thing that baffles me is the oil change interval.  I changed at 5000 miles (8000 km) and the indicator said oil life 47%.  Oil looked nice coming out, not too dark. I'm used to doing 3000 mile oil changes, I guess now they're calling for 7500 mile (12000km) oil changes.  Not sure I'll ever make it that far but looks like I'll be spending a bit less on oil with this truck.

I haven't compared the filters yet but my 2013 2500 also calls for a different filter then my 2010 did. I think I still have one of the old ones left I'll have to see if it fits.

I did my first at 3000. Went with RP(20-820) anti drain back. It's a short, fatty. Getting the filter off was a little frustrating.

Yeah, I usually use these:

But for the ram I used one of those strap wrenches, worked great

I sell parts for a local Dodge dealership. You're correct, every time we have a 13+ ram come in, they've changed the oil filter from an 899 to a 339. They're not quite as fat as an 899.

I had the oil changed in mine for the first time at 1000 miles and again at 5000 miles and had an issue and had to bring it back...oil leak!  The place refunded my money and redid the oil change and then said next oil change is free also.  They said the filters were mislabeled but maybe this was why.  I haven't been under it much...prior truck as a 2007 Ram Sport 4x4.  Got the SAME thing in 2013...love the new interiors!  The 8 speed trans I had initially FAILED at like 500 miles and got a new one in it... Gave me a free 100k mile full warranty for my troubles so NO performance mods on this one other than level kit, 35" all terrains, Magnaflow exhaust.

I don't even look at the oil indicators...I change w full synthetic Mobil 1 at every 5000 miles...3rd oil change is coming up when I return from Thanksgiving trip.

Use K&N filters, has a 1" nut on the bottom for easy install/removal. And it's great at being a filter.

I have 500 miles on the new truck and bought some Mopar 5w20 and a filter today to do the truck's first change.  I figured I'd do the first two changes with Mopar and then switch over to Napa/Wix and synthetic at about 3,000 miles

Anyway, the filter (04892339AA) is ridiculously small in my opinion! WTF? This is the same filter that gets used on Chrysler's 1.8, 2.0 and 2.4L 4 cylinder cars.

I'm not sure why they changed from the 899? I haven't been under the truck yet, but it must have to do with space limitations. ? Cooler lines for the 8 speed? New front diff? Steering changes??? WTF???? I'm sitting here looking at it and it looks retarded.

I think it's the electric power steering.  I use the 899, it's tight but it fits.

Fucking Dodge and oil filters.  They couldn't make it more difficult if they engineered it that way.  Oh wait....
