Ok boys / girls...

2010 SRT8 / 6 speed challenger

Recently put a cam and catless JBA midpipes on my car.

My set up was a Corsa extreme catback with mid reso's and NO rear mufflers.  The guy before me cut them out to make the car louder.

The drone in my car is bad between 1500-2000 RPM.

Today I put a couple Magnaflow 5" round x 14" comp mufflers in the back of my car thinking that would help diminish the drone.  Didnt do shit.  $250 for nothing.

I need some direction here.

Do i just need to put my cats back on.  Drone wasnt that bad with cats and Corsa reso's?

Can I replace my Corsa  reso's with something else?

X2  Stock SRT  6 spd exhaust is non restrictive and no drone. I run a 440 with Kooks LTs and mids with the stock exhaust and while louder than stock there is NO drone. I do alot of Hwy miles cruising in the 1600 to 2200 rpm range.

It's too bad the previous owner cut the Corsa resonators off. I wonder if Corsa would sell you just the reso's?

I have LT's and hi-flow cats and no drone coupled with my Corsa X.

I have the reso's in the center of my car.  The mufflers were cut out.  I sent Corsa pics of my set up and they want $1300 for two mufflers. Thats nuts.  Thats why I was hoping the magnaflow mufflers would help.  I guess I either live with the drone or put my stock exhaust back on.

That's one good thing about solo exhausts. That j pipe technology works. No drone.

It looks like SOLO puts a reso on the back of their high flow cats.  Do you guys think by just swapping my JBA catless mids with this SOLO HF cat, I would diminish the drone?  I would keep the Corsa reso and magnaflow mufflers.

Thoughts...

Solo here,

6 speed boosted and it sounds good!

Also helluva lot cheaper than Corsa, Magnaflow or Borla.

No that's not where the drone comes from. Those reso's are there to quite them down. There j pipes on the back of there exhaust is what kills the drone. A lot of people had issues with there hf cats. Most were s/c.

If you can find a good exhaust shop, they can make and weld on a pair of J-pipes (about 28 inches in length for the drone at 1600-2000 rpm). I just had this done at a local shop in NJ (Mufflex in Trenton) to my Magnaflows and it definitely makes a difference. Cost was a little over 200 bucks including labor.

Thanks.  I think this is the next trick am going to try.  I really like the exterior sound, just want to get rid of some drone.

From what I understand, the Corsa catback was designed with all of its parts as a whole.  Once you remove or change part of it, their design goes out the window. I complained to a Corsa representative that I didn't like the anesthetics of the rear round cans and they said that it was part of the no-drone design and couldn't really change it much. I got used the the looks, though.

Want no drone: stock exhaust or Corsa.

Either.

Like others, I stayed stock SRT. Did high flow magnaflow cats, and it sounds decent at WOT, obviously no drone. I will be switching over to gutted cats, I have no idea how that will sound.

Never really understood the cat back craze, I have no reason to draw attention to myself with loud pipes, but I know a shit ton of people like the loudness and the deep sound. The one I have heard I like is zoomers, but I wouldn't spend the money on it.

Good luck on the fix. If I was in your shoes, I would put stock exhaust back on, or a proven entire catback as you would hate to keep chasing it and spending money that might not fix it.

There are some resources on the web that outline how to do this in detail (how to set the specifications of the Helmholtz pipes). The best discussion I know of this is on the Camaro5 forum:

I've had Zoomers, Corsa, and OEM 6.1..... I would choose Corsa or OEM for sound and no drone.

A complete OEM 6.1 catback can usually be picked up for about $200.
