Is there a simple fix for breaking that nipple off besides buying a replacement intake?  Anyone know what kind of plastic it is?  Probably PA66?  JB Weld indicates that it doesn't bond well to:

  • Polypropylene plastic
  • Polyethylene plastic

If it's PA66, will it bond well enough for 8 psi of boost?  I stuck it on there last night and checked it this morning, and it seems to be setting up okay.  I'm just nervous of it failing after a good boosted run then needing to get on the brakes and having no power brakes.

Would a better option be to plug that hole with a bolt and some sealant, then tap into the PCV line coming from the top of the manifold and run that to the brake booster?

If you can't get it fixed, you can have my 5.7 intake for $100.  I know thats a lot more then you want to spend but I thought I'd offer it up at a discounted price considering your predicament.

Thanks, JS... I found a 5.7 takeoff intake manifold online for $75 already... just hate to drop that kind of coin for something so little as this nipple.

That's a hell of a deal, but I can completely understand not wanting to spend the coin if you don't have to.  I just wouldn't risk what you might lose if it leaks...  Nothing scarier then expecting to stop and you just keep going, which could led to some serious outcomes.  Good luck!

Yeah, that's what's freaking me out the most... But, as it turns out, that place online with the $75 is out of stock... http://www.smssuperp...001-00066-1.htm

Where are you located, JS?

Damn. That's not exactly a hop skip and a jump away from Louisville.

Spoke with a bunch of pretty smart mechanical engineers, and they seem to think the JB Weld will hold the nipple just fine on nylon plastic, and they said 8 psi is minimal pressure and I shouldn't worry.  Still worried. lol

I can't find his other thread, but check with Hemissary... I think he cut up a 5.7 intake to use with a 6.1 intake and no spacer/adapter.

Had a good conversation with Simon. He's full of great ideas.  He seemed concerned with it being a butt joint and the constant side loading from vibration of the vacuum tube and the heat softening the JB Weld that it would eventually fail.  We decided it's probably best to plug the broken hole, and drill and tap a new hole to put a barbed brass fitting in and to seal it with JB Weld.

Thanks again for the offer, JS.  Hemissarry and I got her figured out.  When I checked the nipple that I JB Welded last night, it seemed pretty stiff, but who knows how long it would've held as a butt joint.  I busted it off, plugged the hole with a screw and JB Weld, drilled and tapped a new hole for a brass fitting, JB Welded the threads, and ran it in nice and tight.  Seems legit.  I'm not worried about appearance since it'll be in the back of the engine... just as long as it all seals.

After reading what I just said, I believe I've said that before, and it wasn't about a manifold.
