With straight axles now being legal in some of our MSHS classes I've decided to offer up the conversion, either on ladder bars or 4 link as well as offer a contingency payout at every event if you win an event with my set up.. All figures and numbers are being sorted out now... Thanx Rollbar

Very cool.

With the amount of money I've sunk/blown on Getrags/cradles/bushings/axles/hubs/links/etc., I probably could have had a solid axle for not much more. :(

Obviously the "Rollbar" shocks worked well on the Jeep:)

Jason, I know this conversion is more geared towards the more full race car. I also know that the straight axle will make the people with trans- brake 60 ft. shine. Is there any down side if someone were to do this conversion on there daily drive. Only thing I've heard is that the big HP cars with straight axle such as the super snake for example tend to become unnerved you accelrate in a turn or even hit a bump. Any truth in that?

Thomas I personally like the way a straight axle car feels alot better than than the IRS stuff.. Your car for example rear steers like crazy when you are hard on the gas.. Mostly because of the bushing deflection..cars have had straight axles for years.. Many still do.. The jeeps do ..

Jason, are there any standard (diff/axle/brake) packages being considered from your end?  Also, what are the timelines involved once a car is dropped off?

After looking at Aj's latest ride in person, I love the simplicity of it all with the straight axle.

Thanks,

Chris

I have a standard or should I say base model rear that I will offer.. That would be an 8.8 center with disk brakes and 31 spline axles.. Main reason being the 8.8 is still being produced and there for has a better aftermarket than say a 9".. Well let me clarify that a lil better lol.. The 9" is a great rear if your car is primarily a race car.. Tons and tons of race gears and spoil options and you can carry a separate center section in the trailer and gear changes could be done between rounds if you swapped the center out... The 8.8 has a better gear selection available for the street / strip guys.. The guys that still want to drive their cars some and want to be able to hear the radio over the rear gear set..lol.. Gear changes of course are more difficult with the 8.8 but who needs to change gears in the parking lot of you job for the ride home... lol.. The Dana is also an option but its God aweful heavy and with a small tire you are gonna be out of gearing options pretty quick as their is nothing available taller than 3.55.. The 8.75 is also an option but because its no longer being put in production cars it only has the race only aftermarket like the 9".. It doesn't have the gearing options of the 9" and really isn't as strong as a well put together 8.8 it wouldn't be my first pick.. With that being said I can do the conversion with any available housing but prefer the two ford offerings personally..

Sure depends on the use of the car.

I like the 9" with the 9 1/2" pro gears. After a season of hits in the Jeep, the 3rd member looks perfect.

BUT, my 9 1/2" gears came with a warning, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT USING THEM ON THE STREET.

They are way way soft.

If it still a driver I'd go 8.8 with 35 spline axles.

Bill
