This is all the rage today on FB, apparently the NHRA is threatening to strip the competitive license of anyone that appears on "Street Outlaws" and shows like it. Most of the stars of the show supposedly got the same letter. Got to facebook and search for NHRA Sucks, lots of hilarity going on there.

Interesting read, and at the end of the interview he blames Texas for it all, lol! I have been always into drag racing, I have never watched "Round de Round" racing, and even though "Drag Racing" was a term used before they ever built strips, NHRA sole goal WAS to stop street racing and give folks a place to race that was safer for all involved. But like ALL good things it has become a "corporate money" game! Hell even top fuel and funny car no longer go 1320 it's been 1000 for like four years now, and the prices just to WATCH are outrages. Rather then defend their "brand" they should work to reduce the costs of not only participating, but of spectating but you know that is not going to happen! I believe they should look at their goals, and decide if they really want the original goal (decreasing street racing), against the new one of just making $, but we ALL know which way that is gonna fall, but I believe that as they leave folks behind in their wake MAY rise another, not priced away from us poor slobs, till then I'll CY at da local "drag" we have been doing that in DFW all this time, Chief knows where we meet every Saturday night, tee hee!

I have to admit that this show is one that really sends the wrong message, but it is entertainment at its best.  Anyone that believes this is illegal street racing is out of touch with reality.

I street raced through the late 60s and early 70s and if caught it was a speeding ticket that cost you $15.  The penalties today are enough to keep anyone from diong this  - felony reckless operation - loss of license - insurance rates through the roof, etc.

NHRA needs to focus on the fact that tracks are closing across the US at an alarming rate, their sport is dying somewhat due to cost but more due to over-regulation.  Yes, we need to be safe but to build a car to meet the NHRA specs nowadays is ridiculously expensive.

I don't know what the solution is but throwing out racers that are bringing attention to the sport is the wrong move.

Advertising and exposure - good, bad or otherwise is still just that - advertising and exposure.  NHRA should sit back and let the games go on.

^^ Agree, my take on why the tracks are closing is the youngsters still want to know who's faster (always will be), but can not afford the track fees, regulations, etc and granted the show is a bit exaggeration, street racing has never stopped and is growing and something the show DOES show, the kids have great ways of staying ahead of da LEOS, man they have it a LOT easier in ways than we ever had, this bid ass city seldom catches them but there are a LOT of burnout marks in this city, the multilayer type if ya know what I mean, wink, wink, nudge, nudge,!

I for one like that they got that letter I also agree that this show should be done at the track but I also see the appeal of it to people who do not go racing at the track. I still say racing on the street is way to dangerous, and hope people take it to the track. But I have a shop neighbor who is currently building a 1000hp street truck. When I asked what he ment by street truck he told me it was for red light racing on friday nights. Not really happy with what I herd I tried I saying why not bring it to the track? The response I got was not what i wanted to hear at all, "I just wanna see the face on those old men with expensive car when they lose"...  I told him good luck and hope he has traction since well slicks on the street.

Well, I think the NHRA is a bit off base, but that's just my opinion.  With all the tracks calling it quits, the youngsters are going to continue to hit the streets.  At least the show is stressing the safety factor of the cars and the safety equipment.  By no means are these "street" races.  With all the lights and cameras, it's a closed course unpreped surface race.  There are safety crews on scene just like at the track, just not in view of the cameras. I think it brings attention to the sport of drag racing, not all good but not all bad.  People just need to realize it is "Reality TV". Just like the rest of the reality shows, it's staged to make it interesting.  I'm not sure about the races being fixed or not but the rest of the show is about entertainment.

Agreed.  I can't watch show with them carrying on like a bunch of fools.  I saw part of a stupid episode last week where they took a street cleaner out to strip of road with nothing but the truck headlights and the cops show up.  The next night they have movie production lights, a dozen trailers, camera crews, cars roaring down the street etc....and no cops.  Really?  Can't watch the drama bullshit, but the 8-9 seconds while they race is fun.  It's the male equivalent of the Kardashians or Batchelor!

Ide understand if they are racing in a NHRA sponsored car wearing NHRA sports gear n such. But if it is their own car and doing it on their own time with no such indication of NHRA being associated then leave em be.

I wonder if by getting the license, you agree to not participate or promote street racing while holding an active license?

As soon as they let off the trans brake its 100% real. Go to YouTube and you can find them racing on the streets before the show even started.

The whole show is fake. Like Amish mafia.

That show is 100% staged.  Soon as they signed a contract, it became fake.  No way they can film criminal acts without reprecussions.  Just like moonshiners, all BS.
