First time post. I have a 2014 300S with V6. I purchased the extended warranty becaause I keep my cars for 15 years or more and figure that it will be the last car I buy. Question is, I ask dealer about synthetic oil and they did not recommend it. What is the opinion of members of the forum? Thanks

I usually stick with what the manufacture recommends. After all they designed it

My opinion is that they're both fine.

If it's a daily driver that gets a lot of mileage, I prefer synthetic so I can get a little more time between crawling under it for a change.

IMO Synthetic is better than conventional oil. It last longer , runs cleaner and doesn't break down. I run it in everything , my 6.4 , my 4.7 , even in my lawnmower and snow blower. Your problem is that you would not be able to take advantage of the extended intervals between oil changes as you will have to maintain your warranty and change it at the prescribed mileage unless your dealer give you a by on that , which doesn't sound like they are too keen on the prospect as they would be doing fewer oil changes. If they do ok it I would get it in writing just to avoid any warranty issues . But when all is said and done running conventional oil and changing it at the prescribed intervals would be just fine.

Nothing wrong with dino oil in daily drivers, just change it when the book (|or car) says, not when the dealer says.

The intervals at which modern conventional oil needs to be replaced is commonly misunderstood. Modern conventional oil doesn't need to be replaced every 3000 miles. There is no proof that synthetic oils protect better than conventional. The only advantage to a synthetic oil is that it breaks down at a higher temp than conventional. It is more important to buy a quality oil. That said, a synthetic oil is cheap insurance.

Here is a quick snippet of a study that they performed oil testing:http://community.sea...29&slug=2336807

I run synthetic in all my cars except my 97 Honda with 210,000 miles. The only real way to see how you oil performs is to have it tested. I have us Blackstone Labs and J.G. Lubricates.
