My plan was to bore (or stroke) my 2011 392 A5 AND add a 2.9LWhipple. The main reason I was considering boring to a 426 is because of my mileage. I'm right at 50K miles. I know that 50k is not really high especially for a 5 year old car and I haven't really beat on mine to badly. My concern was that I might run into problems when installing forged internals with wear from the 50K miles. So why not just bore it out?

No doubt about it, I'm installing the Whipple 2.9L and forged internals. Anyone else added forged pistons/rings/rods on a Challenger with this kind of mileage? Issues?. Would I be better off maybe adding a 274 cam and long tubes rather than boring it out?  I do plan on racing at the track and have DR'ts.

Input? Thanks all........  B)

It would probably be better to get a forged short block.  Who are you going to have do the install?

First thing is to decide on how much RWHP do you really want ? If you only plan on going 12 psi on the boost and mostly street driving you could go with a 4032 piston.

Ya been looking at both Arrington and HHP's offerings. Been looking at all options. I'm working with a local shop SWS Southwest Speed. There are a couple of shops here who are doing some pretty good work with hemi's. I've decided I really want to work with someone local due to my crappy work schedule AND the time and distance thing. I'm in NM so even doing something in Texas would be a huge time commitment to travel that much. On a side note after doing some reading and lurking here I'll probably work with one of the tuners with more experience. AJ, Mike....etc

Well that's the million dollar question and especially because of where I live.....Albuquerque NM. Probably one of the worst places in the country to race due to our altitude and heat.. Even Bandimere looks good compared to us. At least they're cooler than us most of the time. Our DA's are typically over 7000. So with at said I'd like to be at at least 600 rwhp with the potential to take it to 700. Don't really know if I'm being too ambitious.  I guess the thing I worry about most is if I bore it to a 426 is that going to leave my cylinder walls to thin?

On a side note our local Challenger club did a dyno day recently and one of the HC's owners put down 702 rwhp. I'd love to be in that range. Don't really know if that would make my car to much to handle for street driving???

So the simple route.....which I'm not really opposed to. In your opinion what kind of rwhp can I get with the Whipple and the hardened guts.

I've been contemplating the same sort of direction.  Is there a reason I would want to go with a 4032 rather than a 2618 piston?  Thinking for the price difference I'd rather have the 2618 in case I did want to boost higher at some point later.

I recently had the same decision to make, and I decided to go with a new, forged short block with 2618 pistons.

Throw a torque plate on it and hone it .005 and throw a 3.79-80 crank into her with a 6.20 rod and let her eat boost.

Dont ask me, but bore it as little as possible, use a torque plate if possible, main studs and keep stroke stock or under 3.80 to retain a decent rod length to not increase the piston side thrust. Then shoot for 1000hp.
