Yes another one of Tanks's crazy ideas....

so basically the NAG1 is one crazy old beast. and its been around since 1994.... lol

the 722.6/NAG1/5G-Tronic was replaced by the 722.9/NAG5/7G-Tronic.

The seem to operate very similarly. Might even be hot swappable with a few PCM changes from the way it sounds.
Might even be LX capable...?!?! and is used on their current v12s and should up your gearing for accelerating, but also sit nice in 6th or 7th gear for cursing and bring your RPMS down while cruising. Maybe an aftermarket TCM or wiring will(mostly likely) be needed to get something like this to work.

I went into our Mercedes Dealership looking for parts for the NAG1 though.
To bring the NAG1 up to the Mercedes standard of 796lbs of TQ which is enough for a lot of the mid level guys.
Might be putting a kit together for you guys so you could order one or something if anyone is interested.
Atleast give you guys parts numbers from my research. I need to get some more info, and then i will be going back to talk to the service manager and collecting some service/parts catalogs on the NAG1 for more learning pleasure.

Tanks, you need to check the bell housing bolt pattern on the 7 speed and compare it to the 5 speed , also the size(length) of the trans and compare them, also check the trans cross members for compatablity

Mercedes rates in nM, not tq. Convert it drom nm to tq and you eill see its about 150 lower than your thinking. Pcs makes a stand alone controller but no one has made it work.

you realize the current kits out there utilize the big mercedes stuff already? The clutches are readily available through most transmission supply houses.

FYI...Paramount has a mid level kit offering.

New Product: NAG1 Transmission Kit!

Paramount Performance is proud to announce the release of it’s newest product:
High Performance NAG1 Transmission Kit
Paramount has sold dozens of these with great success.
Some of the competitors at LX and Beyond are currently running very well with this transmission upgrade.
This kit was the number one request of Builder Bill at LX & Beyond… PLEASE come up with a kit for the vehicles that do not produce the power that requires the Paramount High Torque Capacity NAG1.
The Kit is designed for

  • LX & LC below 550 rwhp
  • Jeep SRT8 below 475 whp
The NAG1 Transmission Kit is meant to be professionally installed. It is NOT a “do it yourself” kit.
We do have these IN STOCK for immediate shipment.
High performance NAG1 transmission Includes:
  • Stage II Valve body
  • Mercedes AMG clutches and steels
    • (NOT Chrysler (made in China crap) or aftermarket)…these are the real deal.
  • Mercedes gasket and seal kit.
  • Mercedes oil filter.
