Went to test and tune last Friday. 2800 rpm actual stall for a ProTorque 3200 stall? New TCM installed, falls flat on its face at 6200 rpm. put stock TCM back, it pulls fine through the gears, although in “stock” mode.

Anybody have these problems?

Oh yea the speed trials are a week away. Today is day Four waiting for a reply from a certain tech/salesman.

Happy?? Not so much.

I just put in an FTI 3,200 stall converter and I'd say currently its about 2,800 actual, however from what I understand they generally loosen up a bit and pick up a few hundred more rpm with use. Also of course they will no doubt tell you actual stall will vary somewhat. I can't help you on the rest, though I feel for you, it sure sucks to do an upgrade only to go backwards or have issues with it.

Stall will change from car to car as it will change with torque and the curve

Stall speed is always relative to input tq. Many times when checking stall speed via the foot brake it is difficult for you to get the "real" stall as it pulls through the brakes, you may find you are getting 3200 on the flash stall. As far as the TCM goes I am assuming you are in auto stick??? If so A mopar TCM will not auto upshift in auto-stick so a better description of teh issue can help me better in getting it resolved. Did you have the tune modified after installation of the TCM. If you need direct technical assistance please feel free to PM any of us, or e-mail. Don't be afraid to e-mail a sales associate and copy myself or anyone else in sales at the same time. My E-mail is [email protected]. We are here to help

2800 was with the Line Lock engaged. 2800 "foot brakin" too. If it stalls all the time at 2800 I would think a 2800 convertor is in it. I know, all the paper work says 3200. Stall is a fluid dynamics issue. If the internal design of the convertor is for a 3200 stall it should stall at 3200, not 2800.

Canned Preditor tune.
Yes in "autostick".
Launch, pull HARD to 6100 then it would FALL on its ASS. Drop 800/1000 rpm, pick up again then I would shift it at 6000. I finally got tired of this and installed the stock TCM. Launch, pull hard, shift at 6200 as before.

When I say fall, I mean like no run! Then hit and run. The only variable in this senario is this TCM. Your thoughts??

I have the MTCM you have. I drag without Autostick. I just leave her in Drive and mash it. If I use Autostick when I shift, revs blip up n down. Not good. I know it's in the tune.

There is no such thing as an off the shelf 3200 stall convertor per se, one can be built knowing all your specs to get very close to that. But like AJ said your engine TQ will make the stall vary, you can take the same TQ convertor and get a different stall speed in 3 different cars.Because the TQ is different in each car. Also brake stall is not a good way to see when the convertor will lock up too many variables kick in, your gear ratio comes into play, what type of cam you have, how it idles. Flash stall is the way to check one to be as accurate as you can, but with out a manual valve body transmission even it is open to variences. This has been an on going thing since people were buying B&M 2000 stall convertors in the 80s thinking their cars stall at advertised RPMs, your engine TQ, vehicle weight, rolling resistance among other things sets your stall speed. TCI is the brand I have always used and they can explain this in detail.

Thanks Stevo, and thanks to everyone else. The TCI site is good.

The MTCM. Hummmm, well I will leave the stock TCM in for this weekend. I am glad I went to test and tune. I would have been upset if this happened during the Mile run.

MTCM... Drive and let it shift. You can tap the shifter to the right to hold a gear through the traps.

OEM TCM... Autostick (with auto upshift and raised shift points in Pred) will give you higher shift points than in Drive.

Either way, the TCM will shift better and more consistently than 99% of us can.
