Phil, I saw your comments on the 6.4 cam on the Z. Does the 6.4 cam fit into the 5.7 without mods? Any other parts needed? Springs, lifters, etc? I've got the auto, if I bought the MDS one would I still be able to shut MDS off with the Predator? Would I have to use the MDS one?

For those with 11's and 12's, is tuning required? Thanks.

I just had a 6.4 6 speed non MDS cam put in my auto 5.7 2011. My build is probably more than you are looking for at the moment but yes I had a PCM swap and Arrington tune, lots of other mods at the same time. It's a monster though.

So if you have a '11 or a '12, you need tuning to install this cam? Any other parts needed for my car (09 auto 5.7) or can I just install the cam and have it tuned?

Just noticed: You put a non-MDS cam into a 5.7 auto? Any other special parts needed for that? Does that eliminate MDS?

I would assume you need tuning. I can't answer regarding other parts as I had a head job too.

Yes MDS is gone.

Head job. lol

Yes you need springs, retainers and you do not need them but while it is apart forged push rods would be good. No phaser is needed and you will reuse your lifters . Call Don at Arrington to get allthe details, AJ would be able to set you up with the tune after you do the install locally I would say but you will need to call Don.

I think Andy had a combo of the 392 cam and Mean Streets heads that was showing some very nice HP gains on the 5.7s? Might have to do that this spring.

Interesting stuff. If I'm already at 478 rwhp, would adding heads and a cam be pushing the limits of my otherwise stock block?

Shouldn't All your doing with heads and a Cam is making the engine a more efficient air mover. Add a TB long tubes and high flow cats or dump them all together and you will need to go down two pulley sizes to maintain boost.

Any increase in hp is due to an increase of air and a tune is required to add the additional fuel. The additional air/fuel makes a larger explosion resulting in more hp. This increased explosion creates more heat and affects your engine. With any and all increases in hp, you are shortening the life of your engine. If any mod says "no tune required" which also means "this mods adds no horsepower"

You will need the cam and springs. Retainers are the same and it will actually fit without the phase limiter although I would install it anyway.

OK, so the phaser limiter is to ensure the valves don't hit the pistons right? At what cost of performance in regards of timing pull? Is there really an issue with longevity using the limiter from Comp Cams? I know, a lot of questions, but I research shit to death before i hit the Paypal button.

Although I've read several threads on different forums about adding a 392 cam to a stock 5.7 what I never see is a dyno chart and or time slips showing the increase in performance. It seems like when someone does this they are all excited about the install but after they have it in they then go silent. While I'm sure it does add horsepower it would be nice to see a dyno chart to see where along the curve as well as how much hp and torque are added. Also a little concrete quarter mile performance gain info would be nice too.

It sounds like it should be a good mod for the money but I need to learn more about it before going this route.
