I bought a refurbished SHR trans from another member and was wondering how to get the initial fluid level. Does it have to be trailered to the dealership? Is there any difference in recommended fluids than a stock trans? This is all new to me so I appreciate your input. Thanks!

When I did a converter and blue top install it took 8.5 quarts, but then your trans is probably dry, but would be a good start. This was a stock trans so we went with Valvoline ATF+4. Wish I could be more help.

I wish I could help ya.
One thing I don't like about this car is the lack of a trans dipstick. What was Ma Mopar thinking?
When I did my blue tops and valve body, I measured the old fluid that I caught in a tray and replaced with fresh fluid from Ma Mopar.
I have the aftermarket dipstick (MB). I find it a little on the long side.

I have to admit it's pretty painless with a Starscan or Wi-Tech. Just use the chart for level measured against trans temp using the Miller tool.

Once you get some fluid in there, I'd start with Blackvodoo's recomendation, here's how to check the level http://www.challenge...ead.php?t=87909

And here's some numbers from the service manual:
If changing fluid and filter add 5.0L (10.6 pts.) of transmission fluid.
If changing the torque converter add 7.7L (16.3 pts.) of transmission fluid.

I wonder if that means we could just add 7.7L and be in the ballpark? The guy doing the work has a real job at a Dodge dealership, my project is a side job but he does have access to the recommended equipment. I wasn't sure if the SHR trans and the 3300 RPM protorque converter required anything different than stock. Any fluid recommendations?

I think you could do that and be safe on start up. I think the converter takes up about 3 qts. and the rest is in the trans and valve body. Just have a couple more quarts on hand if your guy needs it to top off. Good luck and keep us posted.
