Dodge‘s magic number for the Challenger Hellcat might be 707 right now, but that’s going to change in the next few years.
Due out in 2019, the next-generation Dodge Challenger is set to move over to a smaller and lighter platform – the same one which underpins the upcoming Alfa Romeo Giulia. It’s a well-deserved update; considering the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro were recently redesigned, the Challenger is showing its age, to say the least.
When the redesigned Challenger rolls out, expect to see the requisite mix of V6 and V8 engines – no word on a turbo-four just yet, but the Wrangler‘s upcoming 300-horsepower engine would make for an excellent Mustang EcoBoost and Camaro 2.0T competitor.
But what most gearheads will care about is the Hellcat; Dodge won’t forget about it and its supercharged V8 is expected to crank out 750 horsepower. As for the Charger – if there will be a Hellcat version once again, expect it to boast the same V8 under the hood.
