Hey everyone,

Are there are any motor oil's that could improve engine performance and/or efficiency (any type of power gain) and which are able to perform just as good or better during severe operation? I currently have a 2012 Chrysler 300 (Mopar Design) with a 5.7L HEMI VVT engine.

Any help is better than no help!

Thanks,

I'm also an Amsoil advocate.  I'm actually a dealer for it.  Been using it in everything I own for more than 15 years.

So is Royal Purple a royal rip off?  I used that last round but due again.  I heard Mobile1 was good, but the consensus seems to be Amsoil.  Does it really make that much of a difference between these 3 with regular oil changes?

What are you guys using in hot climates like TX and AZ?  5w40 / 0w40?

FWIW...I believe Arrington recommends 15W50 Mobil 1 or Rotella T6 in stroker builds...

Synthetic 5W-40 European Oil (EFMQT)

This is the oil Amsoil recommends for the 6.4

Mobil 1 is perfectly good, but so are other full synthetic oils (vs semi-synthetic).  Most are made with Group 3 base stocks which is the vast majority of the motor oil and then there's a small percentage of an additive package or "add-pack".  Not too many companies / refiners that make Group 3 base stocks and a lot of the trade them to avoid location differentials (read:  transportation) so oils aren't as varied as most seem to think.  Also, less than a handful of additive companies.  Now Mobil 1 is a bit different in that they use polyalphaolefins (PAO's) for the base stock.  Not saying that's better, but it is derived differently.  It's more a chemical based stock.

Some believe you should break in a stroker with non-synthetic but I've broken in a few without it no probs.  Just change out after 500-1000 miles under varying loads.

An important question for the weight / viscosity of whatever brand you use:  where do you drive the car?  Temperatures for cold start are relevant...important.  If you're racing the motor a lot I'd go a bit heavier viscosity than recommended.  For what it's worth a thinner oil will provide better gas mileage assuming it's of reasonable quality and a heavier oil of reasonable quality should provide a bit more protection under extreme loads.

KY works pretty good because when the thing breaks you can use the lube all over the ground to help ease the pain that is mopar parts.

Anyone know a parts store that carries this??

I don't.  I recommend Purolator PureOne filters and either Mobil1 or Penzoil Platinum oil.  Easy to find and reasonably priced.
