A company is recalling about 488,000 units of brake fluid because its color is wrong.
Each type of brake fluid has a color requirement so it can be identified. The brake fluid being recalled is blue, rather than in the range of colorless to amber that is required.
According to documents posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, Continental Aftermarket GMBH is recalling some ATE Super Blue Racing DOT 4 brake fluid because it could be misidentified and improperly mixed in the braking system. Highway safety officials say that could lead to brake damage or failure.
The company is notifying distributors and will offer to buy back all of the affected units held by distributors, retailers and consumers. Consumers can contact Continental Aftermarket at 1-800-265-1818 or at [email protected].

I've used it for the last 3+ years, Sean. Maybe 4 now. Alternate between the blue and gold if I need to swap it out. Stuff holds up great and is good value for $$$.
Sounds like perhaps they marked some not DOT 4 stuff as synthetic by adding dye...that's a problem. I purchased it via a solid vendor on Amazon. Hopefully they'll reach out if there's an issue, but it stopped my big boat without issue. Then again, I'm not road racing any more so less chance to boil it.
Thanks for posting.

Good deal. Then I'm clean. Please post the list up if you don't mind, mani. I've recommended the stuff to a few here and I don't want anyone screwing the pooch (i.e. fluid boiling earlier like DOT 3.
Here's a chart for reference.
Boiling point ranges [2] Dry boiling point Wet boiling point DOT 3 205 °C (401 °F) 140 °C (284 °F) DOT 4 230 °C (446 °F) 155 °C (311 °F) DOT 5 260 °C (500 °F) 180 °C (356 °F) DOT 5.1 260 °C (500 °F) 180 °C (356 °F)

Well, crap. The first number is the dry boiling point and the second is the wet boiling point...

They should be fine unopened as they shouldn't absorb any water from the air in a sealed container.... But... with that said, I always toss mine if I leave a container unopened in the garage for a year. The stuff's pretty cheap.
I do the same as Sam and alternate blue and gold so that I can tell when I've got a complete flush done.
Thanks for posting this... The stuff I have now is from late last year.
