had the opportunity to drive two top of the line 300s earlier today (John varvatos ed.). I was expecting to be underwhelmed but I have to say the interiors and driving of these cars really blew me away. I have been driving mercedes sedans for a very long time and these were right there in terms of the interior. I also thought the v6 would be underpowered but honestly they could charge MORE for the V6 and 8 speed and it would be worth it. It's WAY smoother than the nag1 and 5.7. If they ever get their act together and put the 5.7 in front of the 8 speed they're going to have one hell of a ride.

Interesting review. I'd have thought the V6 would be awful in such a heavy car. What they really should do is throw a couple turbos on the 6 bump it to close to 400HP and have a ball.

It's surprisingly good. The nag1 is an absolute dog compared to the 8 speed.

^^^^that! I've been saying for years the auto transmissions in these cars and trucks are coarse at best. Can't wait till they roll out the 8-speed broadly.
Good thread.

I like it in the RAM. Every time I goose it I smile, shifts fast and fairly firm, kills throttle on the shifts, sounds like a manual.

Any idea when they're putting the 8 speed with the 5.7?
Had a 300 with the 8spd as a rental. Have to agree with John. I like it. One thing that I was curious about when I got it was the gas mileage. Mine sucked. Big car takes a lot to get moving.
Most people buying a large luxury sedan don't care about gas mileage (I know I don't), but they claim 31mpg on the highway. I seemed to get around 27-28 cruising at 75mph and an easy 30 with the cruise on at 50mph.
Edit: this was a rwd car, I think the awd is a couple worse.

Agree, I don't care about it, but I was at 23 or so in the hwy. real math not EVIC.
Interesting. Got to say they might actually tempt me away from MB for the first time in a long time.

Mine gets about 30 highway as long as it is all highway. Mine is a RWD.

My girlfriend has a 2012 V6 Charger and its nice, pretty much the exact same car as the 300 with a different "skin". On a road trip to Austin and back to DFW I averaged 37 MPG on the EVIC. I dont know how accurate it is in the Charger (on mine its only 1 off) but we filled up right before the trip and she still used that tank of gas for the next two weeks.
Definitely looking forward to the 8spd Challengers, also read that the 5.7 is getting a boost to 400+ hp
