We'll it looks like the rumor is true... I am one of the first five scheduled to get one on 2/14/14. I have to install and report back on Monday 2/17/14 as to how the install went. I think they are going in the right direction to put a quality product out and I commend them for that. I will report back as soon as I get it installed over the week-end.

Is this a Ray Barton Racing Engines product, or another Barton?
But other than that, life is ok.

It's Dave Barton I think.. They have been around 30+ years and the mustang crowd loves them.. Website is attached and they are taking pre-orders for their second run of 100 shifters.

It's close to $500... I was told not to say since I am one of the 5 test folks. I will post photos of it when it comes in today.

Wow, I was expecting closer to $400 given what he had said (pricing in line with that of the GT500 shifter). I look forward to hearing some thoughts on it.

He posted pricing on CT. $499 with the flatstick and $425 without (re use the stock shifter). $70 more than the same thing for the GT500. Why must we get screwed with pricing all the time?

Barton shifter was received and installed today... I took photos of all the parts that came in the kit but it will Monday before I can post them. I left my camera at work. I will tell you the kit seems to be a very good quality. The only challenging thing was get the rubber seal to stay on the tunnel guard while trying to slip over the shifter otherwise the install is straight forward. I did not take photos during due to a power outage at work today (whole west side of Nashville lost power). I will say the shifter feels really good but is a lot noisier than stock. It reminds me of a the Hurst shifter noise in a way. I am going to follow-up with Dave Barton on Monday as promised to give him feedback. I guess that is a trade off for a short throw shifter, but I don't understand why the short throws can not be made as quite or quiter than the stock set-up...I will post pictures of the kit and photos of it installed in the car.

It'll transmit more vibration from the driveline through the shifter. You get over that pretty damn quick if you like things mechanical. Folks that love things stock ought to stay stock. Car works as is. Just a bit boring...

I just gotta say - personally I never understood the loudness problem with the Hurst shifters (or it seems this shifter as well). Maybe its because I have never been bothered by it...but personally I feel - these cars are SUPPOSED to make noises
They aren't luxury cars meant to be frilly...they are loud obnoxious machines with one thought in mind - power. That is my opinion though

An amendment to this...they did want some comfort or else they wouldn't weigh as much as they do ![]()

As far as the noise level goes it's feedback come through the shifter. This is a quality shifter and the best that I have ever used. I actually took the shifter handle off and religned everything and most of the noise is gone. For a short throw shifter it's not that noisy and now that I realigned it it's a lot quiter than the Hurst that I had in my 11 SRT that I use to have.
Bottom line is if you want a quality short throw shifter that is well built then I would definetly buy this one.

It definitely looks like a great unit for sure! I was just commenting on the noise issue as every car I have driven in its not something I ever noticed ![]()

I want the mechanical "notchy" Boise while shifting. That is what it seems this has. Sounds perfect to me.
Yes it does have that feeling (Click into gear type noise)... Overall it's the best shifter I have ever installed.

like what i'm hearing about this shifter, nice firm and audible gate entrance/exit good stuff, good to see another linkage on the block, I doubt I'll ever see one, my Hurst was modded with improved feel and feedback, my only beef was a slight side to side slack that remained, with a 6spd pattern grabbing third brings mental anguish, but after all the time spent it's no longer any problem, as for the noise - it's going to have it all though mine is quite quiet so it can be worked on - end of the day your makin a hotrod enjoy it
