I have a 2010 RT

auto

with the Solo Mach-X and a Rotofab CAI; when in MDS I get a deep sounding vibration type sound. I've adjusted the J-pipe like crazy. The two sides are identical and have been at 2.5, 2.75, 3, 3.25, 3.5, 3.75, and 4 inches out. Doesn't seem to make any difference in the sound. Do I have a leak? A muffler shop put it on for me and I've got an appt for a smoke test next Sat. Any ideas? How far out can I adjust the J-pipe?

Get the car running and have someone place some shop rags in the tailpipes. Plug em good. If you have a leak in the system, you will hear a slight whistling sound from the exhaust. Follow the sound.... and you have found the leak.

Before the Maggie install, I would have a slight drone with my Flowmaster Force II Cat back (muffs and res). Adjust volume on the radio a little and it's a none issue.

You can do two things...
Adjust your radio volume or
Get a Maggie! Maggies don't get along with MDS (Maggie tune turns it off)

Get the Maggie! You will fall in love with your car all over again! lol

Looks like we may have the start of a cat back exhaust debate?

What cat back is best?

I heard the Solo's last year at CF2. I admire them coming that long distance and they did a number of installs at a great price. I found them a little raspy and tinnie for my taste but that's me. Everybody has different likes/dislikes.

I like Flowmaster because it gives a nice deep tone, they are cost effective and well made.

The kit drones, period. I've had it, I know. The J-pipes will not adjust it out, regardless of what Solo claims. Great sounding exhaust for the 6 speed. Terrible exhaust for the auto.

CORSA FTMFW!!!!

Solo has been hit or miss from what I have read/and heard. Your vibration could also be at the rear suspension. I had a system that at idle was fine, but in drive banged against the rear suspension member. A piece of rubber and silicone sealer fixed it.

Again, I just got my Corsa on two weeks ago and I love it.

Not sure why you think that. I have a set and they are really good at getting that drone out. When I first got them I had a little drone. So I added a half inch and now it's perfect.

Before these I had a set of JBA's which fit like crap, then I got the MBRP's which were the throatiest of the lot. But put it in sixth at 2k and it groaned like a sick pig.

Solo has given almost as good of a throaty growl and has completely rid the drone.

It only happens when the MDS kicks in, if you don't have MDS you would never hear it, you could just use auto stick or get a predator to turn MDS off, I haven't tryed to adjust my J pipes because I have MDS off.

3 inch is where it should be and thats what the owner of solo who installed my exhaust said.
I had reso deletes with a stock muffler and drone was so bad my feet went numb and the radio test was 20 volume and with my solo mach x it is 1/3 the drone with mds on and the radio volume is 12 before you cancel out the sound. This system works but any auto with the mds features will have some drone as to why the factory resos were so frigging huge and weghed 24 lbs each.
I usually when on the highway put it into autostick and it's not that bad .

That's what I've read too, Denis - that disabling the MDS via the predator or Trinity will eliminate the drone. I didn't really get this car to save gas - lol

Thanks all. I usually keep it in autostick to "disable" MDS but was trying to use it at least on the highway at cruising speed. When MDS is off it is fine.

Sean, does the Corsa have any issues with MDS on?

IronChallenger, whats inside their mufflers?

I've ridden in several cars w/solo's and what I heard was minimal at cruising speed. The issue with all systems is going up a hill in MDS...that is where it gets annoying for some...that is where it really buzzes.

These cars have huge reaonators for a reason...that sound is tough to eliminate completely. Just depends on what you are sensitive too.

I wouldn't base any opinion of a cutback on the sound right out of the box as it has to season. I know my Corsa was very mild at first, but got louder and throatier after a few months.
As for drone, I can't say that I've never heard of any one swapping a Corsa for anything else, but it is pretty rare and seldom because they are really unhappy with it. I have said however that I would look very hard at Solo if I ever need another one as thanks for their support of our community.

I've driven my car with MDS enabled and disabled by the predator. My mpg went down the crapshoot once it was disabled, but never had a drone. After a couple months of high fuel fill ups, I decided to turn it back on. Since I was not driving my car as hard as I used too. I have become used to that sound that I hardly recognize it on the way around anymore. But my wallet did recognize the savings. . What your hearing is normal. Plenty have gone thru the same thing since 2005.

I believe I also it also become less noticeable after I installed my longtubed and hi-flos. I had a Mopar. Corsa catback already.
