Is there any advantage in getting either of these? I see most getting a 180 but have read about codes and engine not hot enough. I saw one post about a 190 t-stat. Is there really an advantage to be gained with either of these? Recommendations? Thanks

I get the code usually in the winter time..no big deal, I just clear it with the predator. What I dont understand is..how can the temp be too low???? Is that for emission reasons?

Sorry, forgot to say I have the 180 t-stat.

I have the 180 degree t-stat, in over a year of using it I've had no codes and no problems.

180 comes with the KB from the factory. I ran one before that mod anyways. When used with adjusted fan temps using Predator or similar I noticed a little less power reduction with regards to heat soak.

I have never seen the purpose of a 180 stat on a basically stock daily driver. With that being said I run a 160 stat with fans on all the time. My dash looks like a Christmas tree with all my codes thrown anyway lol

Yes it is becasue of emissions. If the engine does not warm up (past 16X degrees) the car thinks it is cold and stays in open loop. If it does this for too long you get codes. I have a 180 t-stat, becasue it gets damn hot here. Lower the fans by 20* across the boards and you should be fine.

Next ask Phil about a catch can. lol

Is there an advantage to 190 t-stat or would that be a case of too little dif from the stock?

If I were going to do it (and I have) I would just go ahead with the 180 degree thermostat. If it proves problematic (I don't think it will, at least I haven't had any codes yet) you can always switch back to stock or to a 190 t-stat, it just doesn't take all that long to swap out.

I've had the 180 in mine for over a year and haven't gotten one code due to the thermostat. I know some say it isn't necessary on a basically stock motor but it gets damn hot here in Texas in the summer time and seeing the temp at 215-220 bugged the hell out of me. I'm from the old school and always tried to keep my motors running under 200 if possible.

I've had the 180 degree t-stat, in over two years and I've had no codes and no problems. Dropped the fans turn on temp by 20* across the board...because it gets Damn Hot & Humid in SC. Oh and I've had a catcan about the same length of time, with no problems...I empty it out once a month as it is usually half full from my daily commutes.

Thanks guys. I've order some braided sleeves for the hoses and since I'll have it disconnected thought I may as well. I don't yet have a tuner so if I put the 180 in and don't change the fan settings will there still be a benefit?
