I haven't been under there in a while, but I remember seeing the OBD port held by two screws, so it should be fairly easy to remove. I'm not sure if there's another harness upstream that you can disconnect to work on the connector outside of the car, if if you have to work under there.

I've had to replace my 90 degree cable on the Trinity as the first one was causing me similar heartburn. I concluded a while back I was probably getting the OBD2 sloppy as well always connecting my Aeroforce gauges, and disconnecting them for loading tunes, datalogging, etc... with the Trinity. I'd like to see any fixes pursued if something is learned. I may be in the same boat.
The one caution I would offer is be extremely cautious when loading tunes. If there's disruption during that process, which happened to me one afternoon before I was ready to leave for the track, it will screw things up pretty good and then your best hope is resetting the Trinity and hoping the car recognizes it. Scary crap.

Everytime I go to load a tune is turn off all accesories, close the car door and make damn sure I got plenty of juice in the battery.
It's too easy to screw up the connection if I'm messing with the radio or getting in and out of the car.
Anybody ever wonder about the settings on the downloader? I was wondering what compression they are applying to the tune? It was always set to compress this and I've never switched it but some compressions are lossless and others are not?
Just wondering.

I sit there and hold my breath, cross my fingers and toes and pray while the Trinity is doing its thing. Scary crap indeed. Last thing I want is a bricked PCM.

Had a bit of luck change. I got AJs loaner predator to load his tune back on so the car saw the road today.
Not sure why it worked today and not two days ago. Maybe I just wiggled the right wire and made the connection. Anyway I logged with my trinity and sent AJ some data to adjust my tune so at least for now (fingers crossed) we can move forward with this initial tuning.
So I loaded the tune with a predator and logged with the trinity. Here is something wierd; while I was logging with the trinity and my laptop, the trinity said it lost its live data feed. When I looked over at the laptop, it was still going and recording fine so I finished up the log and saved it. Then while the trinity still said it had no live feed and was asking me to start the engine (it was still running) I started the logging again on the laptop and the data feed started. The trinity still said no live feed... WTF.. After I was done with the laptop, I just tried to view live data on the trinity and it would only show for about 5 seconds then stop showing. So the trinity thinks it is not getting live data but it is flowing through it to the laptop. Now tell me how that happens.
Anyway, I am driving...

I would tell Diablo about this issue if only I thought they would really give a shit... But they don't.

Went on another test drive.
No fluid leaks. No coolant from cap any longer (spring in lower hose).
Engine temp stayed 190 to 194.
Now, where the hell did I put those Line Lock parts...

You can datalog on the laptop using the predator as a pass-through.
If the trinity is having connection issues, this may be the better option for you right now.

Your right except with the Predator I cannot log the AFR from my wideband. The trinity has the analog input capability.

Depends on your wideband. I have a Zietronix ZT2 which has a USB output as well. I had to record both Zietronix and Diablo at the same time on the laptop, and AJ was able to overlay the two on his end. You are just emailing two files instead of one. I was racing with a laptop in the car for quite some time. ![]()

Update on my OBD port woes: I was using a 1.5-foot obd extension that provided a 90* connector. I removed it, unscrewed the obd port and connected it directly to Diablo's cable, and it seems stable. I secured it all up with tie wraps and that's how it will stay. I won't be able to disconnect the trinity from the port easily, but I haven't needed to in almost 4 years, so I don't see why I'd start now.

To minimize issues with the OBDII port, can you just leave the Trinity cable plugged in at the port and disconnect it at the Trinity? Will that cause any problems running the car that way?

Did you cut and splice wires or just eliminate the extension cable?

This is what I was doing, but I originally didnt secure the 90* connector into the OBD port. It holds on its own, but I guess prolonged vibration and bumps caused some damage. The ipod-type connector on the Trinity is fickle; I've never had issues with it, but be gentle.

No, I just eliminated the extension and connected the male Diablo straight OBD connector into the now loose port.
I haven't test driven to see if it loses connection, mind you, but wiggling the cables around it seems good.
Still too much snow here.
