I had sent a couple of logs over to Mike to review yesterday, and he replied back that there was something screwy with the data.  I looked at it and it showed a coolant temp of -83* and STKNK of 123*, just to name a few of the screwy parameters.  I had sent him logs a couple of days earlier and the data was fine, I didn't change anything, so I thought my Trinity had taken a crap.  The data looked fine as I was recording it.

I called Diablo, spoke to them, they said send them the logs, I did, and they said, "huh".  They asked for for the version of Trinity software I was running, I told them, and they immediately defaulted to update your Trinity...the ole "reset is your friend" mentality.  I told them I really didn't want to un-marry my device and risk screwing up my base tunes (been there done that), they said they couldn't/wouldn't do anything until I updated my Trinity, and to call them back when I had done it.

I was keeping Mike updated during all of this, I was also PM'ing the Jr. Tuner ( lol ), when I connected the Trinity to the laptop and logged, it worked fine, so again, I thought the Trinity had a data writing issue.  I tried a SD card...same issue, data was weird.

Mike asked me if I was adding PIDS to the pre-loaded layout in the Trinity, and I said that I was, but that I always did that.  He said that sometimes that caused this issue.  But then I remembered that I was doing ONE thing differently....I was changing one of the layouts and saving it.  THAT was the issue.  You cannot save changes to the pre-loaded layouts in the Trinity.  You can change them, but do NOT save the Layout, before you save the log.

I went to the car, added a PID to the 07_UP_Tuner Layout, logged, did not save the layout changes, but saved the log and all is good.

Bottom line, take the time and build your own layout, most of you probably do that, but I didn't know the consequences of NOT doing it.

I'm glad Diablo stepped up to be a sponsor of CF4, but their service on this issue was less than stellar.  The offered no suggestions other than "Update your Trinity, then we'll talk."

Thank you Mike for helping me think through this!

I wonder if this is the source of all the log weirdness I have been seeing, the supposed large amounts of STKR and LTKR that I am getting while cruising at highway speed with the engine under no load. I will try building my own layout, I was also lazy.

Diablosport's customer service and tech support are dismal. I can't even get a simple answer from them on how to use the raised shift points function on the 392 tunes.

Good thing you stuck to your guns.

Factory support regarding firmware can often times be frustrating. They are told to do it a certain way and they try and follow the rules. Unfortunately when an unknown bug comes up they don't have answers so they run back to mama. This forum and it's members have exposed a variety of real bugs that can create a world of havoc on our cars. Thanks for letting us know.

I find Diablosport to be unimpressive to say the least. Wish we had more options like the Chevy and ford folks.

Here is an example of how screwy mine was....Check out the AFR!

That layout is all fucked up.

I never had a problem like that and I used the same base layout and modified it prior to pulling a log.

Mike has the best suggestions for layouts. I use his design now and he is able to really dig into the tune to adapt it perfectly for my ride.

Yeah, this isn't the layout I selected in the Trinity....it is what was saved, along with the jacked up data.

It was really pissing me off this morning.

This is 'mo betta

If there were competition in the tuning arena for this car I'd wager customer support/service would be MUCH better.

What Sean posted is simply the the PID's he chose in Dataviewer and how they were displayed (analog vs digital, gauge, etc...).  It's not the same as what he setup in the Trinity.

It's interesting, Sean, because I never used their canned setups on the Trinity.  I've used either my own "dashboard" or the one A.J. prescribed (mostly) so I never ran into it.  Good thread.

Yep, I have a car sitting with a brand new motor which I have run and now my Trinity is having connection problems. I want to have all of my ducks in a row, before I drive it, so I know where I am at with it.  Unfortunately, I may just have to buy a new one and get my current one fixed and hopefully, sell it later.

Oh yeah, in the last two days I have spent nearly three hours on hold with Diablosport.

Ok, rant over. lol

the predator may be a relic but reliable. The trinity seems to be an unhappy unit.

Man I hate hearing stories like this. I really want to update to a Trinity to help with simpler logging and I like the plug in allowed for widebands but I am sticking with my predator for now. Hope that ends your issues.

I really like the Trinity, I just look at it as being female.... It is a finicky bitch sometimes, but when it is good, it is real good.

Did some more logs this AM, this seems to have fixed the issue.

Bottom line is, again, like a woman, invest the time up front (build your own layouts), and it will treat you right.

Lesson learned for me.

The first Trinity's use an iPhone connector and protrude from the bottom. The newer ones have a more robust connector that attaches to the rear of the unit.

I like the fact that I can add my wideband to it among other things that the Predator cannot do...once I get it dialed in. lol

As I've said before, I like the Trinity.  It's a great data logger and makes things very simple, which is good when you need data and need it easily.

If Diablo had just spent a few more bucks in making it a more robust unit, for $600 we pay yeesh, and added support so that it didn't have to update CAL IDs and all that it'd be a winner.  As I've said before in it's current configuration it's value is about $199.

I hate like hell to jinx myself but I haven't had any of these above issues. When I first got my wideband installed I had some issues with it, Sam & Speedy stepped up to the plate and we go it going. When I first started logging after the blower install, Speedy set me up a dashboard that works awesome! Never had a problem, knocking on wood right now!
