  5. UPDATE: The man killed after the car he was driving hit a tree and split in half Feb. 26 is identified as Ricky James Bradley, 28, of Detroit, according to the Wayne County medical examiner’s office. His name wasn't confirmed until Saturday because his body was severely burned; dental records were compared to confirm his identity. The early-morning crash involved a late-model Dodge Charger slamming into a tree on eastbound Outer Drive, just east of the intersection with Chalmers Street. Police said the car was traveling far above the 30 m.p.h. speed limit when it hit a tree, splitting in half before the rear half stopped several feet away after slamming into a second tree.
  6. Motorist dies after car split by tree in crash on Detroit's east side Detroit — A fatal car crash on the city’s east side early Wednesday morning split a Dodge Charger in half after it crashed into a tree at a high rate of speed. Police and the coroner’s unit were on the scene of the crash at Outer Drive near Chalmers. The incident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. An officer at the scene estimated the black Dodge was flying along at about 120 mph when the crash occurred. Fire personnel had to use the Jaws of Life to extract the body from the wreckage. Police have released no information about the driver or why he or she was driving at that rate of speed. The two parts of the car were loaded onto a flatbed trailer and removed from the scene by 7:30 a.m. From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20140226/METRO01/302260037#ixzz2v07ShovU
