What’s goin on fellas, hope everyone’s Christmas and New Year went well. My corner of car parts for my 2014 Challenger R/T 6spd is starting to grow again. Recently, I got my Barton Short Throw Shifter, McLeod RXT Racing Clutch, Fidanza 13lbs flywheel. I am now looking into adding another part to my next build sheet and have decided to go with a wet nitrous system. I will say the sky is the limit on what routes/parts to buy for a nitrous system, but I am also not trying to be a 300-400 shot runner.

Ultimately, I will be using a manual push button from the shifter knob to activate the system during my 1/4mile run. I don’t really like the idea of the automatic nitrous systems; I like to know I can just use the nitrous if I NEED that extra nose to win the race or if I see a car reeling me in. If I don’t need it, then I don’t have to use the push button and save some spray.  I feel with my gear set up, 3rd is my longest gear pull and monstrous with the 274 comp cam. In which, this will be the gear I will push for the spray.

My questions for my system set up are:

-What is a fogger system? Would this be recommended or is this for more high powered vehicles?

-Single or Dual Nozzle? What would a single or dual nozzle be used for? Pros vs. cons

-Direct Port Nitrous system? Would you recommend this system even if it’s a small 100shot?

What brands would I want to look into with how I want to set up my nitrous system? I am looking at the following:

- Nitrous Outlet: http://www.nitrousoutlet.com/

- Nitrous Express: http://www.nitrousexpress.com/

- Holley Nitrous System: https://www.holley.com/products/nitrous/

- Edelbrock EFI Nitrous System: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/mc/nitrous/efi-systems.shtml

- ZEX Nitrous System: http://www.zex.com/zx/hemi-challenger-nitrous-systemhtml/

I invite any negative or positive comments regarding the set up I am looking into. If anyone can help me with any part #'s, what I would need to include with my manual push button nitrous system set up, or complications that may arise your time and input would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE:  Purchased the 6.1 intake manifold and added stage 3 porting into the mix. Once this has been received, I will send it off to nitrous outlet for the plumbing on the intake manifold. After plumbing has been done, I will have it sent off for a custom paint job (looking to go with the design and DP nitrous system below). After all said and done, back to nitrous outlet to complete the build/install on the intake manifold.

It will be an automatic direct port nitrous system with Dual Rails including a mini 2 stage progressive controller. Still debating on buying the dedicated fuel system, most likely will though since it will be a direct port setup.

Well Im not sure what shot you are planning to run but I would be setting it up for a low pressure set up.   SO eother way you wil need to upgrade your current pump and step it down with a regulator or go witht he dedicated .   If I remember correctly you are on a stock motor still?  If so I wouldn't go over a 150 shot.  The DP hits much harder then a reg kit.   However if a new motor is on the horizon then pill it til ya kill it

Haha. Thanks for the input man, especially regarding the fuel system alternatives, it's appreciated.

Yeah, I'll be running safe for right now 125-150 shot is what was recommended to me by Nitrous outlet. With what AJ explained at nitrous outlet and feedback I've been getting, I'm pretty sure I'll do the dedicated fuel system. Never felt a nitrous hit but I get an adrenaline rush just thinkin bout it.

I hope not to see the horizon anytime soon, but if I do, then damn...lol. I'm trying to take this 5.7 motor as far as I can until it says no more. Besides the cam, No internal upgrades just yet. Ultimately I'll want to buy a 410 stroker kit which should make it "sturdy" for my 5.7 to incorporate w the direct port nitrous system. But I got moths flying out my pockets right now, however, I do still have some left for some ported eagle heads, so may include that as well with the upgrade. Then of course I'll have the Fidanza flywheel and RXT twin clutch installed then as well.

QUESTION UPDATE: Would I want to upgrade my fuel injectors yet or no? Will I need different bolts or any parts at that for the 6.1 intake manifold to fit on a 5.7? I just have a feeling I'm missing some parts I'll need.

If you need any other aspects of the nitrous system or some bottles for the cheap that are in good condition, Dave Weber at Modern Muscle Performance has my old system for sale.  I even have one of the most badass stage 3, ceramic coated 6.1 intake manifolds already plumbed and jetted for the HP range you're looking for as well.  Might want to give him a call if its not too late...

Thanks for the input and feedback. Nitrous outlet has been a pleasure to deal with thus far, very patient people when it comes to people like me with "well how this?" & "how that works" questions.

@FlyByU - Thanks I'll probably end up doing that, I'll be sure to ask about the painting when I call for final purchase in about 2 weeks.

@Mark83 - I'll probably hit you up for those bottles. Thanks for the heads up.

Don@AGP & !FST4DR - thanks for the input and feedback

Still gotta get this damn 274 cam tuned right before I can install the nitrous system and make test pulls. These are the issues I am having and can't seem to get them straightened out quite yet, I'll continue to be patient though. Got a lot of time in between the "gettin parts ready" stage before nitrous install.

I have two current tunes at the moment, this one tune has a ghost idle where it just climbs up on its own when shifting through gears or going into neutral from a gear. The vid below is from me going from 3rd to neutral (this happens in every gear depending on the rpm I let into neutral):

This second tune doesn't seem to do the ghost idle like video above, but doesn't hold idle when dropping back down. I was able to bring it back by down shifting cause I was still moving but if that happens at a stop light i can't bring it back and have to restart my car.

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of patience and will continue with my current tuner. But I do not mind putting money towards another recommended/reputable tuners for these cars and do more email & data logging to get this straightened out as well.

But before I spend money on another tuner/email tune, ide rather have a tuner that can confidently say "I know I can fix your problem through email tunes with xx amount of data logging. Or I've tuned this type of cam by email plenty of times with no issues (like above)".....Then ide be happy to make payment.

When I installed my stroker and 90mm throttle body my car reved on its own or died when I pushed in the clutch. Local tuner was unable to fix it. Sent my tune to AJ (Hemituner). He fixed it in 5 minutes and sent it back to me.  Give him a call. He can get it fixed.

That 274 can be a bitch to tune.  Frankly I don't think its the best cam for a 5.7   Ive never seen one make over 40 -50 hp and have used custom grinds that get the same results and are easier to tune.

One a side note  You did change your springs correct?

But you are on the right course  You def want the N/a tune to be 100% as that is what your n2o tune will be based off of.

@!FST4DR - You're right about the tuning being a PITA. Yeah I changed my springs. Ready to get my next performance mods in line and moving. The tuning sets me back a bit.

@surfer1420 - Been hearing alot of great things about AJ, im pretty sure ill be giving him a shout next, if things dont start coming to gether pretty soon here.

If you're considering a 150 shot of nitrous, definitely get a dedicated fuel system and run C16 or something similar.  Low octane fuel will only cut it up to about 100 shot if you're lucky. I tried MS109 this year and I am still getting some STK that I dont like.  C16 is the route this year and I hope that cures all my STK.  Will know more once the white crap goes away. Also, contact AJ.  The guy is a beast when it comes to tuning.  It will be worth it.

Just saw your update.  I have the exact same ported mani with DP from Nitrous Outlet.  Let me know how it turns out for you.  I think I am waiting to install my DP until I get my motor redone this year, but definitely get the dedicated fuel.  If you have any questions, I have a few tips on the install for that unless you go with the one underneath the rear cover.

Here is a pic of my mani and my dedicated.  Attached File  10153179_392603587569560_7888621576395721196_n.jpg   74.15KB   30 downloadsAttached File  10553583_333745373455382_9033440513554445211_n.jpg   91.21KB   30 downloads

I have a nitrous outlet dedicated tank that fits back under the cowl on the drivers side.  I don't know if yours is the same as mine (07'), but it is pretty nice how it just tucks in there.  I'll see if I can find a picture.

Nice, you ever get the tuning worked out?

I had the same type issues with my custom grind cam, once i got a proper tuner the issues cleared up.
