Shift Interlock Solenoid

Has anyone replaced this yet, is it a actual solenoid or does the whole shifter have to be replace


Or better yet can you just get rid of it some how

I was told by Tremec to unscrew it and put a plug in its place. He thinks it will throw a code so you may have to adjust the tune or? But he said the solenoid is a no brainer. I haven't done it yet so if you beat me to it let me know how it goes.
