The owners manual has a recommended break-in - believe it's 500 miles.

However, I've hammered mine hard since leaving the dealer lot, Bill. Did lots of full throttle flat out runs to triple digit speeds, accelerating up to the red line and then shifting the first day of ownership, and that has continued to this day. I had an "old school" Mopar guy tell me that's the way to do it, so I did. Helps seat the rings well, and quick I was told.

She doesn't burn hardly a drop of oil.... I change mine every 3000 miles and the oil level has barely dropped on the dipstick when she's due. And it still usually looks amber. When I changed my plugs a few days before Challengerfest - 21,000 miles.... they looked textbook for "normal" for a good running engine. She makes good horsepower too, for a stock 5.7.

Your results might vary, but.... If I bought another Hemi, I'd break her in the same way. Good luck and have fun. And stay safe!

I spanked mine from day one. If you are doing a long cruise (1 hour or more of interstate driving) then variate your rpms speed. Don't cruise at say 2500 rpm for an hour. Mix up the rpms. You will be fine. Have the dealer do your first oil change. They have trained gorillas in Mexico at the engine plant installing those filters. On your second oil change, switch to synthetic. I use Amsoil with an Amsoil EA series filter. Best filter in the industry. Just Google it and read all about it.

Good Luck.

Yep, great point. I never go over 3000 rpm until the thermostat opens.

If I was going to do a catback, and spend the money, it would be Zoomers, not a doubt about it. They sound awesome, especially on an R/T. Call speedlogix, they support us here.

I am sure there are cheaper ways, but they sound kick ass, and they look fucking awesome under there.

Zoomers, FTW. Did you not HEAR my car at CF3? Granted, different engines, but still. Also, get 'em from Speedlogix. They have better pricing than Zoomers themselves, and like Alan said, supporting vendor here.

Also, a few of us are OCD enough to do the first oil change at 500-1000 miles. Then next one whenever the computer tells you. I don't think you have to take it to the dealer, but definitely have an oil wrench handy so you don't have to do the old screwdriver-through-the-oil-filter trick.

I got 5 free oil changes with my R/T. Did first at 1000the miles just to get any manufacturing dirt/grit out of the engine
