My answer: Yes its required for adequate clearance. Doesnt matter if the heads are stock or ported, same scenario.

Manley 221430-16 (Hemi Specific)
Manley 221431-16 (Hemi Part Number but a re-labeled Manley 221438-16 LS spring)
PSI1511 (LS spring)
PAC 1235 & 1535 (Hemi Specific)
PAC 1218 & 1518 (LS Spring)
Comp 918 (LS Spring)
Ferrea S2009 (Rebadged PAC 1235 Hemi Specific)
Ferrea S2001 (Rebadged PAC 1218 LS Spring)
Ferrea S2002 (Rebadged PAC 1518 LS Spring)

All of those springs will work with the appropriate locator/retainer. We use PSI1511 on all the std stuff and the 221431X-16 for an upgraded spring good to .650" lift.

Wasn't Arrington using the 6.4 cam without issue on the piston to valve clearance (i.e. no need for phaser)? I thought AJ posted something... Might have that wrong.

Yes, they have done it without the phase limiter from what I am told, but that doesnt mean there is a ton of clearance. We all have a comfort level and I wouldnt want it that close. There is a reason the 6.4L has valve reliefs from the factory for use with that cam. It may be perfectly fine, but I prefer to be on the safe side.

So you think they'll be floating valves and banging pistons? Seems uncharacteristic but I guess anything's possible?

What's going on with your build, Andy? Maybe time to float your thread again.

That's pretty impressive from the 6.4 cam, but I think I'd go with the Comp 274 if I were going to go to the trouble. I seem to recall from previous threads about the VVT cams with the limiters that the majority of the expense was in the install and tuning. I'd say it's well worth an extra $800 or so to get about another 50whp versus the 6.4 cam.
