Big(ger) Power And Shifting Characteristics - Dyno Testing!

I have been driving the car for quite some time now with the PTCM6500 and the Paramount transmission/TC (1000hp).... I just switched from a Novi1500 and stepped up to a YSI blower. We got on the dyno to do the WOT tuning and experienced the inability to manually shift gears (Johan does the WOT pulls in 4th gear). When he tried to manually shift, he received the dash lights and could not go further into 2nd, nor 3rd. At this point, he switched to "dyno mode" and WAS able to shift through sequence and get to 3rd for our WOT run....

We needed to switch to "dyno mode" in order to manually shift... Dont remember having to ever do that on prior dyno sessions... Ojn the daily drive, I'm not typically shifting on my own. Usually I'm having coffee or rubbing one out sooooo....

Is this normal when you get to the "big-boy" level?

What is big boy territory? I never had issues with mine shifting on the dyno, don't even know what dyno mode is. However, last time on the dyno was only a little over 700 HP, is that big boy level?

Monty, I never raced in ma manual but when I would come though the pits I would use manual mode with my paramount trans and PTCM....

Uh okay... How does this help? lol.. Enjoy the Shindig Dan!

Still not sure why this is occurring.

I've emailed Bill, and he says this is normal. Normal to what? Never heard not seen this before.

Anyone?

It is normal in a sense. If you scan it you will find it's in limp the code will be an 0520 speed sensor error. It's expecting to see front wheel speed being it is configured for jeep and car awd and rwd. It's only a real issue on the dyno in a car. Changing the config to car specific has not netted any gain or loss in performance during back to back testing. Best results at the track occur in AUTO STICK 1 and let it auto upshift. No worries.

Hope this helps

AJ

AJ-

I appreciate your input on this....

We have never been FORCED to put a car in "dyno mode" to manually shift the car through the gears on the dyno. Just asking the questions, because we've never experienced this before...

When given input, (i.e. manually shifting) is it the PCM or the TCM that translates the input(me shifting) to take action? I guess what I'm wondering is; Do I have a component (TCM, PCM, speed sensor, shift mechanism, or other) that is going bad?

At this point, I'm not seeing any codes (via Trinity)....

Your not going to fix it, Its in limp on the dyno just like a Jeep would be unless locked in dyno mode. The TCM is programmed for AWD and 2WD. The trinity won't show trans codes, if you scan with a Chrysler scan tool you will see it. It will not effect the performance otherwise, Nothing is going bad. Its a really long explanation why it is this way but rest assured there is nothing wrong with your ride :)

Hope this helps

Monty, Johan had the same issue with my charger when he tried dyno tuning with the PTCM.

When we switched to the stock TCM, the issue went away.

As AJ said, you don't have any issues or parts going bad... Just the nature of the PTCM being written for an AWD Jeep and your Magnum being RWD
