Anyone Have Knock Problems With Manley Flat Tops In A 6.1 Stroker

Im about to assemble this pig and am wondering if I will get some pinging issues with the 11.1 static this Manley 420" 6.1 may get. This whole time I was thinking CR would be 10.5 and I guess not. The cam will be one of Andy's old Comp cams with .600/.600, 247/255, 114lsa. Hope my static CR with go down with this cam? Pump 91 is as good as it gets around here. Hope I didnt create a detonation nightmare. I will be able tune to any timing I want to try to combat it. Dont want to need Race fuel to travel, maybe on the dyno or at the track but definitly not daily use. E85 im not ready to embrace just yet.

I ran 11.5:1 and almost that identical cam. I had no issues on pump gas.

You had access to 93 he only has 91 But should be ok with a good tune.

OP you could run a thicker head gasket if you are concerned. Just a thought..

11:1 and 91 with that cam wont be an issue. Static doesnt change with the cam but dynamic will. You have a large amount of overlap that will bleed off some dynamic compression. You wont have any issues with a solid tune.

Thanks for the input, planned on using the stock head gaskets I have. I guess I could buy a 3rd head gasket and use some of its layers to shim up the other 2.

If this is the route you choose there are many custom thickness's available through cometic...

Thanks for the reply Andy, tune wise I will be able to have any timing table and amount I could dream up of with the MS3 EFI.

I know that sir, but I already have a new set of factory 6.1 head gaskets and could get one more and use the shims out of it to add say .010 to each of my stockers. And still only have about $30 more in head gaskets that one Cometic.

Just letting you know what your options were.. Seems you have it under control best of luck..

Driving around on the street you probably won't create enough cylinder pressure to cause detonation in the first place. Just keep your foot out of it, if you're worried about it.

Thanks I appreciate the help. I just checked my stockers and they have 2x.0085 shims in each. So a person could take one and turn his stock head gaskets from .036 to .0445 could he not? I can get the head gaskets for $36 each. Im not against Cometic, just against their price.

Andy, if you pop back in here, will I be ok with that old Comp grind and stock length pushrods? DO I need to purchase a pushrod checker? Also what do you usually mill Mean Streets heads when you flatten the decks? I have a set and they definitely look fresh cut.

Is Scott the development guy over at MS? Cause he knows nothing about gen3 hemi ' s if that's him. He gave one of my customers a timing table that looked like a 350 chevy. Hemis don't do 15 degrees down low and 38 degrees up top.
