Srt Experience In Topeka

Okay Alan tell me about the SRT experience. I will be at the Good Guys national car show with my classics, but if it sounds like a good time, I may have to skip a day and head to topeka.

We just get to rip around in Dodge's cars? 1/4 track and auto cross track?

Do we bring our own cars?

I need to register at drivesrt.com also.

Anybody else going?

Go to drivesrt.com for full info, me and the wife are registered as drivers.

It is pretty decent, I did it 2 years ago on Vegas.

There are 4 things if I remember correctly.

An autocross course set up with cones, you get timed and you can't hit cones or go over the line to stop.

Then there is a figure 8 type course where you are racing against another car, same deal, but you just have to win to move on.

Then you drive the road course following a "pro" driver, you run 3 laps, get out and then get in line again to get in another car.

There is also the drag competition that varies depending on the track. Since Topeka has a 1/4 mile track, they might use that. In Vegas it was like a 1/12, it was not that much fun.

They used Calibers, Jeeps, Chargers, Challengers and 300's last time I did it. Some cars have cameras and you get a DVD of all your runs after a few weeks.

It is not a complete fucking blast, but it is pretty fun beating the shit out of others cars all day long and you get free breakfast and lunch.

Last time I did it I got 2nd in the autocross timed event and did fucking horrible in the drag racing part.

sounds awesome, so it's free for me, but if i bring a guest as a driver they have to pay?

Yep that's it. For our time in Angelton, there was not a drag strip, so we did the road course twice. And at the end, you rode with one of their drivers around the road course. It was raining in the afternoon. They drifted the cars around the track in the rain. That part was a blast. The car was hardly ever pointed forward. The autocross and head to head were fun. On the road course they were fairly conservative about how fast they would go until they saw how well you drove. After our first laps, I talked with the head instructor for our group and said I hit higher speeds getting on and off the interstate than they let us run on the road course. The next set of laps our lead drive let us get up to a little over 100 mph on the straight stretches. One of the other attendees told me he should have worn heels since they let Chuck and I go faster and he was stuck at 80mph.

One tip, talk to the camera while you are in the car. It makes the DVDs much more fun to watch. Otherwise it is just you, the road ahead, and the instrument cluster. I used. The top gear line a couple of times. You know the "star in a reasonably priced car" segment they have on the BBC version.

Hope thus helps. Chuck and I are going to go again this fall sometime.

Yep, you can buy them for your guest from other owners who are not using them. The SRT people charge 500 to drive, and 100 to watch. I just picked mine up from a guy on CT for $200. There is a thread on the parts for sale section, post up you will buy for $200 and you will get some hits. Most go for 250 or so.

Here is what the SRT people sent me regarding what an owner has to send them.

"We will need a letter granting permission from the owner. The letter

should contain the owners vin number, name, address, phone number and

signature. We will also need the name of the person the owner is giving

the experience to. Fax the letter to 248.553.2138 after the letter is

faxed then the recipient may go to www.drivesrt.com and register the

letter may not arrive via fax more then 2 days prior to registration."

I went last year in Jolliet, IL. It was a blast. As it is included in the ticket with an SRT you should take advantage of it. I was actually scheduled to attend the one at Laguna Seca before the big D krept into my world. I believe they have dropped the drag racing all together. You should have a morning and afternoon session of road racing and two different types of autocross. Breakfast and lunch and the opportunity to buy some SRT stuff. If you buy a guest pass your guest gets to go around with you all day and ride with the staff drivers all they want. You should have fun!

You don't need to bring anything. I think you have to wear closed shoes, but they have everything else.

My stilettos are closed toe so I'm good. So it's free for me but a a guest has to pay $100 non driver or $500 driver correct

haha.

You are correct, but you can get driver certificates much cheaper from private owners who are not using theirs. I just got one for my wife for $200 to drive.
