2016 Inagural Arkansas Mile Event

43 posts in this topic

The team that has run the Texas Mile evemts for many years have started expanding the number and location of events. Last year they added an event in Colorado. This year they are adding an event in Arkansa. Dates are June 3-5, 2016 in Blytheville, Arkansas. Event Location: 4701 Memorial Dr. Blytheville, AR 72315- Runway 18/36.

The Arkansas Mile

Event Date: Friday-Sunday, June 3-5, 2016

Location: Arkansas International Airport Blytheville, AR

Registration Date: Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. CST

To register as a participant for any of the events hoseted by the US Mile team, the first thing you need to do is set up a

participamt profile at this link

https://www.usmileracing.com/registration/

This link also includes vehicle tech and driver qualification requirements for 2015. I have not seen the requirements for either released yet for 2016. It is very important that you read and understand the tech requirements for your vehicle which are based on your expected speed. Vehicle tech is taken very seriously at these events. It is also important that you understan the requirements for drivers including required safety gear and their licensing requirements. The driver and the car must be certified for the speed you expect to run as you will be restircted to running the lower of the two certifications. If you go ahead and fill out your participnat profile and set up an account, they will email you information on registration, updates to vehicle and driver requirments, when pre-registration will open for each event, and many more useful tips. Important extra itmes you will be interested in are local hotels, golf cart rentals which make the weekend much easier to navigate between pit and staging grid, fuel availability, etc.

For the Arkansas event in Blytheville, Arkansas, there will be other related activites occuring that weekend. Info from the flyer they sent out earlier "The Arkansas Mile will be teaming up with the other motorsports festivities happening the weekend of June 3-5, 2016 at the Arkansas Aeroplex; including the Cars and Cycles Against Cancer fundraiser, British National Meet and welcoming television host, Dennis Gage of "My Classic Car" to Blytheville. Throughout the weekend, spectators will witness racers going full throttle, see performance vehicles up close and personal and celebrate the lives of friends and loved ones fighting or have fought cancer."

If anyone here is interested in attending, please post up here. I hope some of the vets from the Texas Mile can join us in Arkansas. And hopefully those who have wanted to participate in standing mile racing but have not can attend this event and we can all pit in the same general area and put some face to screen names that may not know each other itr.

If you have questions, please feel free to ask. I am no where near the expert on this type of racing, that title goes to HemiSam :). But there are several people on here with more knowledge, Kenny, Dale, Chuck to name a few.

I am not sure if the location changes the price. They rypically offer a 2 day or 3 day option. For us, a 3 day event in Texas with 2 drivers, and the event t shirt cost us $700. For a single driver for 3 days is about $500. I am not sure how much less a 2 day pass is. And those numbers are registration only. No hotels etc. it may be a little less expensive in Colorado and Arkansas due to the sifference in insurance requirments by the facilty at which the event is held. Texas requires $50 million in insurance for 3 days. From what I have read, other facilites only require $5 million. I do not know how much of the difference is picked up by the participants vs how much more the sponosrs contribute to the Texas mile events.

Also the Texas events sell out within hours of registration opening. I am not sure that happened at the first event in Colorado though it may happen in 2016.

OK thanks, we have the SORC that is a 2 day= 1mile shootout on one day and open road race the next and it in the $600 range for driver and co-driver. If I could go hit a 1 mile event for $300 or so i'd be game.

I think I'm going to go as well. I'm trying to talk Chad into it as well with his Hellcat, and another friend with a new ... Mustang.

I'd like to get a better understanding of this statement though:

"The driver and the car must be certified for the speed you expect to run as you will be restircted to running the lower of the two certifications."

What exactly does that mean? I have a 2015 Scat Pack pretty much stock. I'm wondering what this driver and car certification entails?

So your car will be rated for under 199 mph. The link I posted above lists the tech requirements for the car for under 199 mph. This does not mean that once the car passes tech you are free to run whatever speed it will run. Each driver also has to be licesned. Unless you have a license from another organization you will start will a class c license which is limited to a top speed of 165 mph. You will have to complete licensing passes to graduate to a class b license to go faster. Class b is limited to 199 mph which is all you will need with a stock scat pack. Driver lisence classes and requirements are also listed at the link above. The track staff do check the car tech sticker and your wrist band which identifies your license class before every run.

This is close to me and Greg Lisa. I'll get in touch with him and plan to be there.

Cool. We will have to party on Sunday after the racing ends as my 50th is just 3 days after this so I think this will be my birthday party :)

Thank you for the info. I saw the part about the under / over 199mph part I just wasn't understanding the license part.

So for the licensing you make your first run as a "C" class person if you've never done this type of event. And then is you safely run 165mph without any issues and follow all of the rules do they give you your "B" license?

Just curious. I'm assuming my car will pass 165mph in 1 mile but I really have no idea. I know the car is supposed to have a top speed in the 180's but I have no idea how long it takes to get to that speed.

Yes. You'll make about 3 passes getting your license. You have to prove you can control the car at speed and not go over. I think the first pass is 145 or something like that, the 2nd is 165, then you're good up to 199.

They take it really seriously. They claim if you just go balls out at the end of the day and exceed a speed your licensed for they will ban you from ALL events forever.

Good to know. And I'm glad they take it seriously. Going those speeds is no joke in my opinion.

I as under the impression you might only make 1 or 2 passes the whole event. But I guess if you get to make several passes using a few of them to get licensed isn't a problem.

Typically we get about 3 passes a day, so no problem getting bumped up a license class as long as you are paying attention. We have had a few drivers get over excited and bust the 165 mph on their first run.

Just read through the tech specs. I'll be good to go but will need to find some tires to use. 555R is only V rated (149MPH). I'm trying to remember what Sam went when his car was setup like mine. 175MPH is in my head. Looks like I'll need W rated tires if I'm gonna go all out.

That would be great. I just setup my profile.

Speedy if memory serves me correct the W rated tires are only good to 168 mph, you should be in the middle 180's easy. I ran 172 mph with 525 rwhp.

You need to double check to make sure your limiter is set to 300 or so. I do hope to have the R7s fitted by them so you can certainly use our Pilots. I also have an extra set of the Hoosiers but they need a 19" rim.

I would also recommend grabbing rooms if you are considering. There's not a lot of rooms in Blytheville and you don't want to be in the "downtown" hotels from what I've heard. I know I will be locking things down much better in Arkansas than I do in Texas.

I heard that...

If you do bust your max speed; stop short, go backwards on the track, and take a pull off lane back to the pits bypassing the rv that hands out your speed slips.

I should be there, it is a lot closer than Texas and hopefully not as windy.

FYI I booked the Holiday in as it is right if the interstate. And Chuck is referring to the speed limiter as it comes from the facotry set at 180 mph. There are 2 places in the tune it has to be changed so make sure it gets changed in both. Yes we found out the hard way we only had it originaly changed in one place. We also have our rev limiter bumped up on the race tune which helped a lot.

Gotta link to the Hotel?

https://www.ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/us/en/blytheville/byhar/hoteldetail?cm_mmc=EMAIL-_-Res_AWA-_-Res_HI_2015-_-USEN-_-RESDETAILS_HOTELNAME

I booked a room I could cancel just in case. The Michigan Mile was canceled at the last minute. Though I doubt that happens with this crew as they are good a putting on this kind of event.
