Shift Light Install

Installed a Raptor shift light today, install was pretty easy but for those that need to know where to get a good RPM signal here's how I did it. Looking at the Chrysler Wiring Diagram site under ignition coils / Connectors / Module Powertrain Control C2 / Connector Details (sorry couldn't link directly to the location) there is a diagram of the center connector for the PCM showing pin #10 being the coil control wire for coil #1 (dark blue / dark green stripe)....

The PCM is located under a plastic cover on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Remove one bolt and you can pull out the PCM far enough to be able to lift the cover on the #2 (center) connector to expose the wires. PCM is under this cover...

Pull the PCM out far enough you can get access to the cover over the plugs. Using a small screwdriver, pick, or similar type of tool carefully undo the 4 retaining tabs over the plug exposing the wires...

With the wires exposed look for the dark blue wire with the dark green stripe. If you look closely enough at the picture below you can see the pin number 10, that is the coil #1 control wire and can be used for an RPM signal...

The front left wire (#10) needs to be tapped. I used an exacto type knife to peel back the insulation. Then I ran a small wire inside the cabin using the hole next to the brake booster, then soldered one end to the #10 signal wire. I then used a 3/8" wire cover secured to the bundle of wires to add a little protection to the signal wire...

From there on the wiring is pretty easy. I mounted the shift light on the bottom of the dual gauge pillar I already had installed. Getting power was simple enough. I had previously installed a Cirkit Boss under the hood and ran an ignition triggered power wire under the dash. The wiring is simple, the wire you used to tap the PCM 2 #10 wire goes to the green wire on the shift light, the red hooks to power of your choice, and black to ground.

The RPM trigger is adjustable using small screwdriver and setting a couple dials, one for 1,000's and one for 100's. Mines set @ 6,000 as my rev limiter is 6200 and I'm figuring I'll be there by the time I react to the light. Here's a quick video with the shift light set to trigger at 1,200 RPM...

Without the yellow cap the lights are amazingly bright, you wouldn't have any trouble seeing the lights in the brightest daylight. The old school :) yellow cap tones it down to a tolerable level.

Took me about an hour to do the whole install, might take longer if you have to find a suitable power source for the light.

Great write-up.

You'll probably want to add a couple hundred more rpm between the light setting and the rev limiter to keep from bouncing off of it. Your reaction time and the delay in the shift will definitely be more than 200.

I was going to get the Raptor light until I realized that the Trinity has one built into it.

good stuff :-)

2011 is a little different but pretty close

PCM only has 2 plug in harnesses

unplug top harness(brown)

use no.2 pin which is the yellow with blue stripe wire and connect it to green wire from Raptor Shift Light

:-)

I've got the raptor daul mode shift light which I'll install in the next few days...

I sent it back to Raptor after I installed it the first time as the light was set up to change modes based on a VSS signal.

Nag1 cars don't have a VSS so they programmed it to switch off the brake light signal. Brake on = launch mode

Brake off = shift mode

I'll put a 3 position switch on it so I can change it between dual mode/shift light only/off.

Duh... some of us auto guys forget there are 6 speeds out there. (slap myself in the head)

Carry on and please pay no attention to me.
