My Vmp Trip

Was another great event in the books, and glad to see some old and new faces! Dan, another great one in the books, thanks!

Some may not know but since installing the new BES block, my times have been less then expected and had been chasing gremlins since last VMP in May. To make a long story short I sent out my whole nitrous system to Dave @ Nitrous Outlet for flow tested. They found a blockage in the system that prevented the passenger side of the motor to not get nitrous at all....

We got the system back and some good flow information. The 31 jet which is what is a "300" shot actually flowed 288 HP through my system and the 33 jet "350" shot actually flowed 322HP through my system.

I decided to start with the 31 Jets for VMP and to see what she would run. Last VMP in May with the motor getting half the shot she was running consisten 9.8s @ 138 mph.....

After making a NA pass to make sure fuel AF was correct I loaded the nitrous tune in the car which had timing pulled from where I normally ran it just to be safe....

First pass

Way better then I had ever run, new PB for me and also the car was making more power that I was running out of gearing. I had to have my tuner raise my rev limiter to 7350RPMS just to make it thru the traps...

Second Pass I added 1 degree of timing

New PB again and plug still looks like it needs 1 to 2 more degrees and a bit of fuel taken out, here are pics of the plug from this pass

I didnt have much more time to finish the tuning as I was running in the Pro Class 9.50 and now had a new problem on my hands, how to or shall I say best way to slow the car back down.

Unfortunately, Legmaker took me out in the first round in an incredbily close race. It was a .180 vs .140 tree and he got me on the 60ft...... I actually had a slightly better 1/4 time then him but he beat me to the line by a foot.. from memory, I think it was a 9.62 vs a 9.65 .....

But, the day wasn't over, Greg Davies had "Called me out" and we still had to fulfill our grudge race..... I decided to add another degree of timing based on my last plug cutting and set the car on "Kill" or as much of a kill as I felt comfortable based on the info I had...

Got another PB at the end of the day

On that pass I think timing is on the money just need to pull some fuel. I am extremely confident the car has a 9.2x in it once I get the fuel levels right. Goal I have now set in place is to run an 8.9x on a 300 shot. I think in great air it will be close and will also look into a bit more weight reduction and 60ft improvement for that.

I had a great VMP trip minus some issues with the my tow rig. VMP is one of my favorite events and look forward to doing it again. I dont think I will be able to make ATCO but hopefully get back in the series next year and hopefully be ready to possibly jump to Super Pro.... I hate slowing down :)

I have a big liquid filled gauge in the car and a piece and or disk from inside the gauge got loose and traveled up the line. The disk is to prevent the shock of the nitrous from damaging the gauge..... must have gotten loose over time and decided to give me a hard time :)

Car is rocking now and really think she will get even better.....

New goal is to hit the 8.9x and then think about upping the jet to the 33

BTW got one GoPro from the 9.38 pass

congrats Dan!

what happened to the truck?

Great work Dan, car is hauling ass ! Glad you got your truck squared away (I think ?)

As soon as I got off the exit in VA on the drive in, I started to hear a "Howling" coming from somewhere under the truck. Long story short it turned out to be the pinion bearing in the front diff failing. I got with AJ who just said to change the fluid and disconnect the shaft spinning the diff and I should be able to get home no problem, which was the case.... but to be honest, I worried about it all trip. Especially when the only dealer in a 50 mile radius told me the soonest they could even touch it would be Tuesday of this week

Ouch.... That was SO 3 years ago.

Throw ALL the nitrous at it!

Yea well.... Big shots are tricky on these.. Once you get onto a 400 and up shot the game starts to to change... Personally I think Dan has a good chance to take that title with some weight reduction he is still well over 4k lbs..

9.3 is a solid pass on a 300 for sure. Did the starter behave after the battery was charged?

Thanks! Starter was good for the most part. I think one time it spun for literally a second after the motor fired up.... but that might be the only hiccup on event day and I did charge it with a 40amp charge in the pits between round.... might be worth replacing the battery and solenoid though, at least before I drive to an event like ATCO

Wow Dan the ride is rocking, congrats!

Thanks bud! I want to try and find time local now to finish the tune up..... I need to go down 1 fuel just and maybe drop a lb of fuel to be spot on
