Introducting The Api 1500 Competition Fuel System

32 posts in this topic

Cannot share a ton of information right now, but this should officially "launch" in the very near future...

Two pumps are better than three, and we'll prove it! The 1500 refers to the number of horses that can drink from this beast, and as always it will come with OEM-level fitment and finish. The first kits will ship with a bulletproof electrical installation kit that is as "smart" as it is tough as well. The second round will include all hard/soft lines and fittings needed to make a complete fuel system. The third round... Well, I can't talk about that round yet, but it will be even better yet!

A couple preliminary answers:

1) Yes, the OEM level sender will mount to this unit (not shown in pictures)

2) Yes, these pumps are quieter and more efficient than the Walbro units that are so abundant

3) Yes, we have completely sealed the hat so that no fumes/odors get into the car

That's awesome, Eric. I put a bunch of time, effort and funds into the odor issue with my FORE setup. Looks like a more elegant solution.

HemiSam

Thanks Sam, Joe, Mikah and AJ put a lot of thought and effort into this. Should be an outstanding part...

Very nice, any pricing info?

No pricing yet; but…as always it will be the quality and performance value leader …

Also, note that it will be sold as a standalone unit for tuners and shops; and as a “plug-and-play” system for the DIY’er

Eric - Based upon my Arrington build specs will a change to this increase my performance and if so, will it still be as easy (plug-n-play) as you mention?

I’ll let AJ give the definitive answer to the increased performance question. I’d think that if you are out of fuel then yes; if you get 60 PSI at the rail though-out the run then no.

The first release will be the Tuner system; the pump unit and a “smart” wiring harness; the complete system will include regulator, connectors, hard and soft lines, pump unit plus the smart harness. Easy is relative, but everything you’d need will be in the kit.

From the standpoint of Engine performance your current system has the capacity necessary to feed your power level. With this new system you get the same capacity available with 3 pumps in a 2 pump system. After installing dosens of systems like yours and taking the feedback from the end users we took a clean sheet approach. Our new system will be an oem grade kit that is clean, reliable and offers on demand fuel delivery when you need it. The Biggest issue we have seen with the old system is the odor. This has been painfully addressed.

Hope this helps

A.J.

Put me down for one. I've been holding out for a better solution than the Fore hat. I still have one of the first dual pump units. Still going but the hose setup always makes me nervous. Eddie is about to start on a few things on my car hopefully next week. Is it close enough to get one?

Very nice looking set up. Is the pump Cam made or is this an Arrington made system? Nice to see something other than the Fore hat. I never ran the old Arrington set up but the Fore set up also has that odor issue.

This system is all Arrington.

Note on the odor issue; we searched long and hard for a solution that allowed heavy gage wires to penetrate the cover without allowing fuel to permeate through the part or the wire insulation. The piece we acquired has been in use by major OEMs for eight years without a single failure.

I'd like to see details on the wiring setup...sounds awesome.

The harness is an extremely heavy duty and fault tolerant design; and it has a couple of cool features, only one pump will run normally, the second comes on when needed (semi user defined). Additionally there is warning circuit if the second pump fails to initiate as expected.

What type of warning is going to be used?(if you can share) I'm in the process of doing this to my car. I'm just putting in a small LED light that will come on when the pump gets juice.

Smart to only use one pump in normal driving.

Not final yet, but likely Red LED (and maybe audible option) if either pump should be running and isn't.

We'd welcome ideas on this...

With dual option LEDs, it wouldn't be too big of a deal to have it wired up to show green when "OK" and red when not. That way it's giving feed back either way.

How about a taser hooked to the throttle pedal? lol

Yeah Taser lol you go first.

I was hoping you guys had a great idea and were willing to share. Only thing I have come up with is a LED light to activate when the second pump gets power. Just hook it in the the same power source. Not real hi-tech at all and probably will be missed if there is a failure. When your needing the second pump it's not like your just idling around.

We still have some work to do on the controller, but we're going to actually use a current-sense circuit to be absolutely positive the 2nd pump is running. Just letting the 2nd pump voltage drive an LED only tells you that you ASKED it to turn on; the only way to know that it's pumping is to actively measure current.

Bayou - this system will require a dedicated return. The first kits out may or may not include the return hardware, but the complete kit will have everything you need to reuse the Passenger basket and line for return duty and a new, dedicated feed line (-8) from the new hat to the rails.
