Any Stats On Intake Temps For The True Cais?

I was curious if anyone has been monitoring intake air temps with a Trinity or a Predator to see temp differential between ambient temps and intake air temp with the True CAI.

I've been leaving my Trinity dashboard for a while. My Airaid CAI tends to run about 15-18 F higher than ambient at full throttle - 20-25 F higher than ambient at cruising speed. Of course, temps skyrocket at a stop because of lack of air flow under the hood.

Wondering if the LMIs true CAIs perform better in this regard?

The True will see about 20* above ambient while sitting stopped, drop to ambient within seconds once the car is moving. I often have customers tell me that on the freeway or similar speeds, they see 1-2* BELOW ambient.

Let me dig up some various threads that have some good info on temps.......

Note: During summer months, stopped temps can sometimes see closer to 30-35* above ambient due to intense radiant heat coming off the pavement. Remember, the filter is literally less than a foot off the ground. Nice thing, the temps drop quick once the car begins to move......

Wow - moving temps within a couple degrees of ambient? That is outstanding - I am thinking that may result in improved "real world" performance with the air entering the throttle body is 15-20 F cooler. Might be time to ditch the Airaid. With the optional filter sock, are these safe to drive in the rain? Hydro-lock makes me a little nervous. :)

Jim I've drove mine in some pretty nasty rain a few times and never had an issue, if you drive it thru say a foot or more of standing water you may have a problem. You will be completely impressed with the LMI fender pull.

Kenny, thanks for the info. You guys get some serious rain down in Texas, when it does rain... so you're experience makes me confident I'd have no issues.

I'm assuming you run the dry sock on yours?

Yeah, I wouldn't obviously driving thru a lake.... leave that work to my Journey AWD. LMAO!!!

Jim I do run the pre filter sock on mine, when I took it off the car it had about 6k miles on it and the filter looked like you had just taken it out of the box.

Well, I will just HAVE to buy a Legmaker True CAI intake.... lower intake temps might gain a bit at the track and on the street. Heck, might even be able to feel it with my 'butt dyno'. lol

Jay - If you run the pre-filter wrap, it greatly reduces the amount of debris that may get into the filter, as well as repell most all water. Only issues you will see with sucking water into the intake is if you completely submerge the filter while on the throttle.

Snapped this last fall on the way to the track one day..

LMI 4" Fender mount true CAI FTW!

For prefilter i use black pantyhose, works great, filter stays clean(er) and when purchased it comes with a free spare. :)

I gotta thank HemiSam for my introduction to the LMI intake. Quality, fit and finish is superb. Jim, there is a little work to be done on the install. You have to enlarge the opening in the inner fender at the bottom. I bought a 4 1/4 inch hole saw from Home Depot with an extension. You will need a wooden template bolted from underneath for the hole saw. Hole saw cuts through within minutes. Hole saw not cheap. If you lived closer I would lend it to you. Mani has it now and is finished with it. If you can wait, come to CF4 with the wooden template installed. I will bring the hole saw and we can do a "Canadian" install in the parking lot. This goes for anyone else who wants a parking lot install.

No worries on the filter Jim. Mine went to CF3 and back. Been through rain too. I just inspected it last week and there is not a mark on it. I don't run a sock either. The filter is well protected with metal and plastic.

You know Jim.... if you are doing the LMI, get the SRT8 spoiler, belly pan as well. That open brake duct puts cold ram air right on the filter! It's all good mate. PM HemiSam for install pix.

Jim, I have the hole saw and the plywood template and you are more than welcome to use it if you will pay the shipping, lemme know because another member(SUPER-SIX-ONE) on here has it right now and he could just ship it to you. Or you could come down in Oct to the TX Mile and just pick it up. :)

Ok so when we looked at my data logs from the Texas Mile runs, the highest my IAT's got was 152 and that is at 8.5 psi boost on the Maggie at 172 mph.
