I just bought a new Trinity from Mike @ OST and I have been reading all the trinity threads I could find using the search button and I was thinking maybe we could put all the do's and dont's in one thread and pin it hopefully helping tuning newbs like me.

A few issues I have seen are:

Updates to the cars cal id

http://modernmoparfo...r-throttle-lag/

Trinity updating itself when it finds an internet connection

(couldn't find the thread)

Be careful with the connector

http://modernmoparfo...install/page-41

You cannot save changes to the pre-loaded layouts in the Trinity.

http://modernmoparfo...-trinity-today/

Any other Trinity issues or tips????

The layouts will be dependent on the year of the car. I include a list of PID's and a remote tuning instruction document to my customers.

One cool thing that Speedy showed me was that you can actually save off a Trinity dashboard and "share it" with others. The one downside for me is that these pre-saved dashboards appear to be year/model dependent. At some point I need to take some time to build an inventory of dashboards for model years and just ship those to my remote tuning customers when they sign up for a tune.

On that note - Speedy does have a dash for 2010's that is laid out just the way I like it

Since he created it I would prefer you request it from him (I think he offered to post it on his website).

Speedy is certainly an asset to this community and really does deserve a lot of credit for all the data, video's and instructions he supplies.

Speedy being slightly anal retentive does have its benefits...

I know what PIDs I'm interested in, but what recommended PIDs should I be using for 2012 Challenger SRT8?

DON'T:

Ever use your Trinity if you volts is showing less than 12 or very close to it. If in the middle of a tune load you go below 12 volts and your trinity loses its juice, your fucked....  Possibly bricking your pcm and likely to need a pcm reflash in addition to possibly needing to reset your Trinity.

update:

Found out today that according to Diablo, this is not true unless the voltage goes under 10 volts.

I'm sure others probably know this, but the PIDs on the Trinity are quite limited.

OSTMike asked me to add a PID to my log and I flat couldn't find it. I found something similar, but it wasn't correct. After a bit of hair pulling and some research, I found that the big list of PIDs are only accessible using a laptop. This is a bit disappointing since using the Trinity and the SD card was so handy and was one reason I bought it. Life goes on. lol

Yep, I found that out as well from AJ. Another limitation for the Trinity that you don't find out about until spending $600. doh.gif

kap.gifOne more thing about the Trinity, never use the push button ignition switch to cycle the key on and off when using the Trinity. The signal is not the same and causes freeze ups in the Trinity and in the PCM. Use the actual key that you have to turn to the different ignition positions.

I loaded Speedy's layout into my Trinitiy, but couldn't find it when hooked up to the car. Then Earl told me to switch the car setting in the Trinity from 2012 (which is my car), to an '09 5.7, which was Speedy's car when he made the layout.

It worked, I saw the gauge layout, but it fucked up my wideband sensor readings. After recalibrating the wideband, and it didn't work, I went back to the Trinity and loaded all the default gauge layouts. Luckily, Speedy's gauge layout was still accessible, and my wideband worked okay again.

Lot of steps to go through for some software idiosyncracies.

Speedy... I would like that (also a 2010 6 speed R/T) dashboard if you are willing to make it available...

And yes, I watched his video on replacing the front spoiler last weekend before I pulled mine off and swapped it

That must happen randomly on different vehicles.  I've never experienced any difficulties loading tunes or modifying parameters using the start button with the Trinity or the Predator for that matter.  I put the push button start in the same night I purchased the car. It's never been out since.

I didn't have any problems either, until I did.

I hear ya. Nothing more aggravating than having problems with something so simple where the shouldn't be any problems. At least now if I have any, I'll know what it is and can blame you  lol
