Kenne Bell Lmi Intake Anyone?

30 posts in this topic

I'm looking to see if anyone who has a KB is interested in a LMI original carbon fiber intake tube? I have a tube at his shop, thanks to John Lewis, for evaluation. Chris has determined that the process won't exactly be cheap to build the mold. He assures me that the mold is necessary to get the best final product, inside and out.

So I'm looking for anyone who may be interested in a first run investment to get this going. Obviously the more interest the cheaper the tube would be.

If you have a hankering to get some carbon fiber in your bay, or you just want to lighten the load by chucking that steel tube to the curb, let us know.

Thanks,

Matt :D

To the top.

I was also thinking the carbon fiber will have better thermal properties than the steel. Not sure if IAT's would be lowered? Possibly while stopped they would.

Chris weighed the original tube and says the new design will be 6 LBS lighter!

That's pretty good.

If we can get at least another 2 or 3 guys in on this initially it would really help out.

Rough estimate is about 200 bucks, give or take a few for the actual finished product per unit.

That's if a demand is available and Chris gets enough commitments to make this a product that sells more than a handful. He'll know better how many he really thinks would make it profitable.

Outside of this he needs to have a mold made and that would be an out of pocket expense that only makes sense if it's got some players willing to buy. So until I can show him that the investment will yield a result I'm kind of the only guy who has committed to it and I won't be able to pay for the whole R&D.

I'll let him go into how much his prototyping would be if he wants to.

I would start by PMing him and expressing your interest.

Chris has made it official.

If he gets 10 people in at $200 each plus shipping, he will go thru with this at that price for this initial group buy.

He's not crazy about group buys and has said he won't charge before production and that it will take a few weeks after the go ahead to have the mold built.

This tube is pretty big and intricate so I agree 200 is cheap as hell.

We've got 6 people so far.

If you're on the fence it looks like this will be a go shortly.

I'm not sure how much the cost will go up after the initial prototype group buy is done.

I've got both of you in there! I thought I had another guy but he was looking for a hand out.

So everyone is clear on this. I am not handling any money on this nor do I have any affiliation with the LMI. I simply started the ball rolling on a product I want.

Therefore I am in no position to sponsor products which I am merely a buyer for myself.
