The Build Is Finally Done.

So it all started off last March when I drove 2500 miles to this awesome shop in the middle of Bum Fuck New York. Dropped my car off to have a it forged with a cam, one piece aluminum driveshaft, DSS 1400 halfshafts, fore return style fuel system with the triple hat and a ram clutch and then off to be tuned. So my buddy at the shop said it wouldn't take long on his part which it didn't the only wait time was on parts. So now he delivered it to this tuner and he had it for 1 1/2- 2 months. The guy kept having issues and to me seemed a little lost at times so the guy that did the whole install told the tuner check the MAP sensor and the tuner would say it's not that so long story short the tuner was wrong and ran up my bill and all the time it was the MAP sensor. The tuners pride got in the way and if he would have listened to the builder it would have been done. So I finally get to pick my car up in June at One Shitty Tuners place pick it up take it out and he tells me there's a shutter while going from vaccum into boost and to just drive through it. Well this shutter was enough to knock your fillings out so I wasn't to impressed with that and then he tells me it's because of the cam that's in it and the bypass valve that I need one that for a bigger cam. So when I got back I call the supercharger company and there isn't one bigger and they tell me it's all in the tune. So after leaving and headed home I stopped in to the shop that did the install as he wanted to look it over before I made the 2500 mile trip home everything looked good except the car kept stalling when I came to a stop but not every time. Made it home and I wasn't even home 2 days and getting ready to go racing so I call said tuner and said do you want me to do a data log and WOT run he said Ya so I went out did one and melted 2 Pistons. So I call the tuner from the side of the road and the first thing he says is its not the tune without even seeing the data log which I thought was weird and as the days went by trying to figure out what happened he continued to point the finger at the guy that installed everything. Tuner guy would say its fuel related and must be something that the guy that installed it did. BULL SHIT!!! the builder said right off the bat if it's my fault I'll pay for everything including the 3000 bill to ship the car to his shop which I thought was a stand up thing to do unlike this fuck tuner that continued to point the finger at everyone but himself. So after the tear down I looked everything over and found the spark plugs were never changed so the tuner used the same ones that were 1-2 steps cooler then stock. So I called the tuner and he said Ya I have the 6510 on my bench and didn't want to change them to keep your cost down. Then I shipped the injectors back to the company for flow testing and they were fine so thats one thing off the list next up the fuel pumps which checked out fine. And all this time the tuner still hasn't said if it's his fault He will help out with it, while the builder already said ship me the heads and its on me. I mean this guy is the best to deal with and helped me out every which way possible nothing but respect for him. So months go by I find a short block form Glen and adam at authentic performance who are probably the best shop to deal with for us guys from Canada. install the short block in my garage and then the heads came back better then ever and the builder hooks me up with a cam. start installing everything getting it ready for start up and now need a tuner. So the builder hooks me up with which I think is the best tuner the Hemi world has. He gets me a start up tune which is already better then the hacks tune that he spent nearly 2 months on. So as of april 2 2015 my car has been tuned,4 of us flew the tuner in he worked his magic and I couldn't be happier. So 9 months after all this it turns out it was nothing mechanical that caused the motor to melt down but it was all in the tune and when I sent out the data log of the run that melted the motor everyone that looked at it said what was the guy thinking. Big thanks to everyone that helped me get to where I am now.

Ya I guess paragraphs would have helped but I got on a roll trying to remember everything and didn't want to go back and fix it. I could have given the clif note version but whatever. It just feels good to finally vent. I told people involved I wouldn't mention names. But the tune was 3000

I would rather tune it myself with a Casio calculator and burn 4 pistons than pay someone else 3K to melt 2.

And all you illiterate pussy's crying about paragraph's need to quit yer bitchin....

Names need to be given and confirmed by OP.

No more of this PWR bullshit where some people hide what they know and a bunch of others get fucked over. We are talking serious $ on our builds, and a lot of time.

With this info, others can take it or leave it, but this major of a fuck up needs to be public with confirmed names to protect others planning builds.

SRT5939 - sounds like you have the right folks in there, but there are a lot of people on the forum that are not going to know the shops.

3 Grand just to tune it ? You have got to be shitting me !!! I can guarantee one thing you have way more restraint than I do.

I sure wish you well with the future on this build, you've definitely earned it.

I would just like to say that there are two sides to this story.

I am certainly not without fault. I have and will continue to make mistakes.

I’ll start with correcting the misinformation:

  • The tune did not cost $3000. The tune cost $1400 and the only reason it cost that much was due to the fact that two separate dyno rentals were required because the car was delivered with a faulty fuel system.
  • The builder was informed that there was an issue with the MAP sensor by me before the car was delivered to me and not the other way around as the customer indicates. This is in no way the fault of the builder, just a correction to the story.
  • The customer was informed before taking possession of the car that the 2 step colder plugs were not installed in the car. Not after the fact as indicated. I also offered to install them before he left with the car or sell them to him, he declined both.
  • I never tried to point the finger at the guy who installed everything.
  • The very first thing I did when he informed me that he had an issue when he called was to ask for a data log and did not indicate anything else before seeing it.
  • The log from that run indicated that starting with engine temps of 200 degrees, the customer ran the car at WOT through 5 gears. Intake air temps hit 228 degrees, then the IAT sensor failed and instantly told the computer the IAT’s were 98 degrees – not good for the engine.

My side of the story:

  • This car was supposed to arrive ready to install a MAP clamp and tune. This should have been in and out in less than a day. It was far from that.
  • The car showed up 3 weeks later than scheduled and at our busiest time of year. With cars stacked up we still dropped everything to accommodate the unexpected repairs, parts ordering, installation etc.
  • Issues with the car when it arrived included a faulty MAP sensor, faulty MAP sensor wiring, improperly sized blower pulley, failed front O2 sensors, faulty IAT sensor and an improperly functioning return style fuel system. The customer was informed of each of these items as they were encountered.
  • The customer was also informed before taking possession of the car that it had a faulty IAT sensor and the replacement one his builder recommended did not fit.
  • After seeing the datalog it was clear that the IAT sensor failed and I believe caused the engine failure.

To say I didn’t offer to do anything to help in this situation is completely out of line.

  • I offered to buy new pistons for his engine and was making arrangements to have the short block shipped to the engine builder to have them installed.
  • I also informed the customer that I was making arrangements for a shop in Winnepeg to do the engine swap for him at my cost. Unfortunately he was not interested in this and stated that I needed to pay to have the car delivered from Calgary to his builder in Ohio. That’s where communication with the customer ceased.
