Dr's For Street Wheels

So a bunch of us in our car club (NM challenger club) are trying to come up with some Street DR's to run on our street wheels.

We mostly have RT's and SRT's with 20 inch/ 8.5 to 10 inch wide wheels. The HC guys have all settled on MT ET2's.

A couple of guys are running the Nitto street DR's on their RT's and SRT's with some success. Are the MT street SS any better? It doesn't look like M&H offers anything for 20 inch rims.

I have a set of 17's with M&H DR's but would like some Street DR's to run in the summer time for those day's when I get off work but don't have time to run home and change wheels.

Suggestions?.......... B)

I've been VERY happy with the Nitto 555R DR on my 20" wheels. I got a 305/35 on mine. First tire I've had on there that'll hook up on the street. MT ET2s are supposed to be pretty good too, but I went with the 555R because they offer a 555 street tire for the front with a matching tread pattern, and I'm OCD.

Don't expect a long life from any DR though. Figure 7000 miles if you're lucky.

Thanks Speedy.....sorry about the double post. Ya I've looked at the Nitto 555R and It does seem to be a decent alternative. I have a friend out here who ran them last year and only expects to get 2 seasons out of them. Just looking at alternatives for the members in our club. I'd like to get some feedback on that MT ET street SS. Wondering if it gets any more life than the MT ET2.

I'm currently running both the 555R and the MT ET SS on my cars.

The 555R's are on my daily 450ish rwhp Scat Pack on a 9.5" wheel and the SS is on the Hellcat on a 10.5" wheel.

The SS is an awesome tire in a straight line, and it hooks up very well even in 1st and 2nd. They are o.k. In turns but move around a little in very fast sweepers, probably due to the soft sidewalls.

The SS is sketchy but manageable in the rain, but I wouldn't drive on the interstate in a down pour.

I don't have a lot of time on the 555R's yet because I just put them in. I tried a set on the recommendation of a friend who has them because they seem to hook decently, and can take some wet weather, as well as supposedly handle a little better. Time will tell.

I'm running 305/35-20's on all of the cars.

FWIW I tried the NT05 out a few years back on my Vortex SC'd 6 speed and did not like that tire at all.

Has anyone tried nt05 ? I see they also have a 555 g2 ?http://m.nittotire.com/passenger-tires/nt555g2-tire/

The G2 is a Summer tire and not a DR.

Decent tire but not really any more traction than say a Michelin Power SS or Conti DW.

NTO5 reported as a noisy tire as well.

My son has the NT05 on his Mustang, they are noisey and I wasn't really impressed with the traction especially considering he is only 425 rwhp.

You all can have all the Nittos you want, including my share. You can also have my share of the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I am still looking for a decent every day tire. Nothing sticks. But I have been told only a driver mod will fix that problem :)

Update on the 555R.

I've had them on the car a couple of weeks now and pit some miles on them. At street pressures of 32 psi. cold they will spin a little when nailing it in first either from a stop or rolling.

If you warm them up first with a decent burn out then they dead hook pretty well.

The sidewalls are not as soft as the MT SS so the car feels a lot more planted in 80 mph sweepers.

I got caught in a decent down pour earlier last week and they did surprisingly well, especially for a DR.

The MT still offers the most traction, hot or cold, but the 555R's seem to be a decent compromise tire for a DD.

Thanks for the update YLYJKT. I'm leaning toward the 555R's since I have drag racing wheels and tires for the track when I want to get serious at the track
