20 In Street Tires

33 posts in this topic

OK I am going to need some new tires soon for my 09 Challenger 6spd procharged. I have strip set up slicks and front runners 17s and I know I will spin on street tires but with the new Nitto 555G2, 555r and Mickey Thompson DR which have you used and like best for the stock SRT wheels 9in? I just want something stickier than the all season Nitto 420s I run on the streets and when I down shift for spirited driving I don't get too side ways or spin till 80mph. Thanks for any suggestions and feedback!

I'm liking the 305 Nitto 555R's I put on a few hundred miles ago. Sure, they are pinched in the stock 9" wheel, but traction is nothing to complain about.

I've had the Continental DWS (really liked them) and am currently running BF-Goodrich g-Force COMP-2 A/S and have found the COMP-2 A/S to be better overall wet and dry.

I really like the NTO5 for everything but tire life, that's in part to the tire compound, HP and driving style. One of the things I like about Nitto is they have sizes that are close to stock revs and look good on the car, fit the opening ect.

I put the 275/40/20 INVO on the front and a 315/35/20 NTO5 on the rear, that size wouldn't work very well on a stock wheel and took a little finesse to get it on my car. I don't spin much at all above 30MPH but I also don't have the most HP in the world either 600ish to the tire.

All things considered I have been happy with the performance of the NTO5 and plan to use them when I need another set, on my second pair now.

305/30/20 555R on the back, other than getting squirelly a couple of times in a monsoon... which I somewhat expected... i can't complain about the overall performance.

Considering the car is a 6 spd car, I would try to stay with a 40 series tire on the rear. The extra sidewall height absorbs some of the shock in the suspension & driveline.

I hated the NT05's. Didn't see that they did anything particularly well. They hooked OK, but only lasted 5000 or less, noisy as hell, rough riding, and felt downright dangerous in the rain. What little bit better in traction was not worth all the downside. I think there are MUCH better options for the street.

Thanks for all the suggestions I'm leaning towards the 555R 275/40/20 those running the 305s do you notice any unusual tread wear? Thanks again!

None as of yet, but as stated, maybe a 500 miles of street driving on them.

I've been running Nitto 555R's since I supercharged my car, and I really like them. I have noticed they last about 1 season per set though. Most of that probably has to do with driving style.

I'm running Continental DWS extreme contact 295/40/20 255/45/20. I've been really pleased with them for couple years now, good traction and wet road handling. Forged 6.1, heads, cam, Whipple 14lbs

I would be running the DWS if not for the speed rating. I am using the R7s for the Mile on the rear next week, but that still leaves the fronts. I am really hoping to have two sets of rears - one for the street, the other for the Mile and one set of fronts that will work for both. We haven't gone over the 186 limit on the DWS, but we are right there and hope to break it next time.

Bondurant runs 285/35/20's on their track Cats with 9.5" wheels. I'm considering the Nitto NT01's in 285 for my SRT. Good traction and wear reviews but not great in heavy rain although mine is a garage queen and sees very little rain and no snow.

Never ran the DWS, but I have the Comp-2 A/S 275's on all corners and dig em.

I run the comp2 on my boss. Anyone else think they are noisey?

I went with them because at Miller motorsports sports park they put them on the Ford FR500 I was driving when it rained.

I like them for a street tire on the boss and they are relatively cheap.
