The Cruise Thread

The Challengerfest 4 Cruise will immediately follow the gun range on Friday, around 1:00 pm.

Craig (TA340) will round up folks from the hotel, and lead the caravan to meet up with folks from the gun range at an abandoned gas station immediately off the Mammoth Cave Rd exit of I-65. Meet Craig in the hotel parking lot at 12:15. He’ll depart at 12:30.

To find it in your Navigation system, enter Dinosaur World (711 Mammoth Cave Road, Cave City, KY 42127) as your destination. The abandoned gas station is just past it, on the left. It will take about 35 minutes from the hotel.

Directions:
From the hotel, get back out onto 231 north (Scottsville Rd), to 31 west (Nashville Rd). Stay on 31 west and turn right where it becomes Louisville Rd, then take the on-ramp to I-65 north. Follow that for 24 miles to exit 53, KY-70W/KY-90W, the Mammoth Cave Rd exit. Go left (west), and the abandoned gas station will be on your left, right after Dinosaur World.

Here is the route for the cruise:

It should take about an hour.

My two lessons learned from last year were have the route available in advance and predisignate the spot where the cruise will. Leave from. :). And Howie, I will pm you the info you requested.

Leo may be more difficult than it may seem as we go across several counties. I was talking to the BG troop PAO last year, but after talking to him a couple months before, he didn't return my calls later, but they did get real busy with the tornados. State troopers tend to have less sense of humor that local Leo's so I don't know if we would want them or not.

They do such cruises for Vette groups all the time so I doubt they would cause any problems. I think that's why BG doesn't bother us as they deal with several vette events a year.

If the old gas station is still vacant, that seemed like a great rally point.

There are pros and cons to LEO involvement. One of the main pros would be that they can keep the caravan together, like in a funeral procession. Intersections can get tricky with a long train of cars like we had last year. They can also keep other LEO off our backs, once they notice that the caravan is escorted.

But it's not a requirement, and I'm starting to see a consensus form here against it.

Okay people, time to vote on the route we want to take for the cruise. Last year, we went through Mammoth Cave National Park. It was very scenic. This year, I wanted to incorporate a section of the Dixie Highway, which is a historic route with antique shops and other stuff to look at along the way. So the first route I picked out has us going through the Park for the first section, and then Dixie Highway for the second section, it takes about an hour, and it would go like this:

The second option, if you feel we've done the Mammoth Cave Park thing already, is to just go entirely on Dixie Highway back to Bowling Green. This route takes about 40 minutes, and looks like this:

The starting point for both the routes is the gun range, since most people will be there anyway.

So do you have any preference for which route you'd like to see?
