Hemi31

New From Lmi For The Hardcore Racer ......headlight Cai Kit.

So this is how the kit comes, minus the headlight. You're on your own with the headlight.

I will talk to Chris because I think the addition of 1 optional tube might make this even more of a home run. Anyway, once you have the 4" hole drilled in your headlight(I'd go 3 7/8" and file the last till it fits the tube perfect)slide the tube in and temporarily mount the headlight.

then mock up the rest of the CAI,don't mind the scratch....wrong tube found it's way to the headlight the first time, already buffed it out.

Once the headlight and tube are mocked up you need to make the tube carefully for the cut at the headlight. This will not be a square cut so I seriously recommend you check it about 50 times before the cut and then use a dremel or a cutoff wheel so it's a clean cut.

Once the cut is made mount the headlight permanently, Remove the highbeam bulb and wrap the plug well to keep moisture out of it and install your headlight harness and bulbs. Mount your CAI tubes permanently and then mask around the tube carefully leaving about a 1/16" gap. Fill this with black RTV silicone. This will do 2 things. It will seal the headlight and it will glue the tube in place. Make sure you do the backside as well.

Once the silicone is on peel the tape off before it hardens. This will leave a clean line.

Finish off the edge with your finger to smooth it out. Put your fascia back on and walk away so the silicone cures without being disturbed. And enjoy the work you just spent all day on.

Yeah......I'll be putting new pins in. Cheap ass Autozone pins don't last.

So anyway the worst part of the entire job is drilling the headlight but if you take your time and have some patience the entire job should take you a day. The main tube can be swapped out for a short tube and filter in about 10 minutes for the drive home and you plug the headlight so road debris does not get in your engine bay when its not in use.

Buy a nerf ball about 4-1/2" to 5" in diameter and attached it firmly to a plastic disc that is larger in diameter than the opening of the CAI to keep crap out of it while in transit or storage. Dont just use the ball, first time you forget to remove it, it will get sucked all the way to the throttle body when you crank the engine over.

Don't ask me how I know 0.o

Thats pretty cool!!

you plan on adding any fuel due to the mass air coming in ? 1/4-1/2 point ? I dont know what was on it originally CAi wise

novawagonmaster prototyped this on his Challenger and I did the same on my Magnum last year with his help. Alcharger was the first to try something similar on his Charger, but he removed the entire headlight assembly and ran something akin to a scoop where the headlight bucket was. I can tell you that I added fuel through the mid range and top end. After datalogging, I could tell that the intake was working as I had to set the fuel just a tad rich, which by the time the car shited into third the AFR was now optimum. First pass with the new intake the AFR was lean and I ended up adding a couple of percent.

It does look great, Eric did a nice job with the install. The ones Jon and I made were pieced and welded together from aluminum. Chris (Legmaker) has elevated this to the next level by supplying eveything needed and making it out of carbon fiber - very nice !

great write up erik and i am looking forward to seeing the differences this makes to the broomstick. i will be watching my phone all next weekend for updates!!!!

folks, i made some small tweaks to the mold today to make this even cleaner and smoother from a fabrication standpoint. I will have pricing listed by the first of the month and will be ready to ship kits then for anyone interested!

btw - this same kit will work for all LX and LC cars..........
