yeah i got that, i'd still be concerned about wind blowing dirt/sand debris across the track, or heaven forbid you are slower than the other guy and they kick up sand/rocks and you suck that crap in.

Maybe I'm just a worrier, I guess it's a risk to take to go fast

Yeah, you could suck in a bird or a small child too !

These setups really work well ! Some of the best gains you can get for the money spent.

I could use one of Goehner's panty hoses to put over the end.

Worse comes to worse, just change your oil more frequently

Any sand, dust, dirt that might be picked up will just seep into the oil

I pulled my CAI off at the throttle body while on the dyno last fall and gained 30RWHP in back-to-back runs. I immediately decided I was going for a headlight CAI for the track.

If you don't have the IAT nanny turned off in your race tune, you will also benefit from lower IATs with the intake out from under the hood and up away from the asphalt.

From looking at my datalogs with the LMI true CAI (fender mount) vs. my headlight CAI, I deduced that the benefit is purely a matter of getting ambient air to the engine quicker (almost instant with the headlight CAI compared to about 1.5-2.0 seconds with the true/fender mount CAI).

this set up is for race only........ any one looking to run it on the street is lacking some brain cells

this set up will gain 2 tenths as jon pointed out

this set up gets ambient faster due to zero restriction from the filter, shorter distance to tb, and higher off the ground.

this set up is not for the faint at heart and requires some hand skills to cut the headlight correctly and cleanly

this set up is not designed to put goehner's panty hose on because they WILL get sucked in

this set up DOES induce boners, but please do not insert said boner into the headlight opening............LMI can not be held responsible for user error.....

any chance you could email me those logs jon????? [email protected]

Here is the LMI True (fender mount) CAI.

Notice how long it takes for the intake air temp to drop as the car is making a pass (I could not fit the entire drop on the screen... there is nearly two seconds missing at the begining of the run).

And here is a pass with the headlight CAI. Intake air temp drops much quicker.
