Cf5 Sponsors (billet Tech & Arrington) Step Up To Help Racers...

51 posts in this topic

After 5 passes today I broke an axle as did another 6 speeder, Ray (hemiorangert)

Burleson aka Concussion from Billet Tech steps up and offers us his backups for nothing. One for my driver side axle and the passenger side for the other car that broke an axle. Lucky break! He took himself out of the racing and shootouts before it started to give us his backup parts.

Then AJ aka Hemituner from Arrington goes to wrenching and swaps out both of our axles before having to jump a plane home.

You couldnt ask for people with any better character than these two guys.

Big props to these guys and their companies for stepping up and getting us back home. New axles were days and states away. Also thanks to Dale aka Hemi57 for helping to locate the parts, Alan (Goehner's bud) for helping with the wrenching, chuck aka Bayou Tiger, Lakey and several others i dont know for loaning tools, impact wrenches, jackstands, etc to get the job done.

Great sponsors, great people all around. Great event.

Yep it was awesome seeing AJ wrenching and helping me also when my car threw a gear ratio code and my check engine light came on. Thanks to all the great sponsors and everybody who made this an event to remember.

James - Thank you for getting this started as I just got home to start the shout out for them!!

I was the other one that broke an axle Saturday at the Track and at first I wasn't sure exactly what I was going to do since I had my family with me and that was our ride home and the closet axles were in Texas for both cars. I was amazed that John dropped out of the race to help James and myself get home. Dale aka Hemi57 for helping to locate the parts, Alan (Goehner's bud) for helping with the wrenching, chuck aka Bayou Tiger, Lakey and several others i dont know for loaning tools, impact wrenches, jackstands, etc to get the job done. AJ jumped in and did his magic with the axle replacements and AJ nor John would take and payment for the axles or the time spent under the cars. I was just blown away at their generosity and they expected nothing in return. If either or you need anything please let me know as I am forever in your debt. I will be calling upon these 2 vendors for parts very soon.

John - Please pm me your address and I will get the axle mailed back to you. Chris with GForce is getting with me on Monday so they can get my axles shipped out.

Again, Thanks to everyone for their generosity as if gets harder to find these days!!

Sincerely,

Ray Taylor

I'm glad that you two were able to get the axles into the cars and home safely with your families. I always carry those spare axles with me as they are the weak link in my drivetrain and with the slip/hook action some of us were seeing at the track it was just one of those days where axles are gonna pop. I was in the staging lanes for my first pass when Don asked if I had my spares and told him if I didn't break they could use them to get home.

When I pulled around after my pass I was going over my datalog and Ray came over to wish me luck and to say thank you for the axles if I didn't break. He had his son with him and I asked if he was here with just his son and he said, no with his while family.

I've been in that situation before, broken down, far from home with the family in the car. As a father that is just the most helpless feeling. There wasn't a choice in the matter, it's selfish for me to risk breaking an axle and one of these guys not getting home just because I wanted to race.

These events are about the people, and the charity, not about timeslips, or winning a prize.

So I told Ray, I'll put my car back into street trim now, which will give them plenty of time to install the axles, and ease everyone's mind so that they can enjoy the rest of the day.

By the time I had my car back together, AJ had the axles in and everyone had smiles on their faces again, including Ray's wife and daughter.

Those spare axles have had quite a life. MadCharger beat AJ with those axles at Atco in 2010 to win stroker. They put Bobby back on the track and ken cut 1.40 60' with them, and now they've gotten two stranded families home.

Kind of a cool story of two dusty old axles.

I am truly happy I was able to help these guys get home. It's what our group is all about, it's what makes us different than the other car clubs. To have the chance to help others, as so many have helped me (and I've needed help many times, and I've always had people jump to help me) I feel like I'm simply passing the torch along.

Thank you AJ for throwing those axles in!

Cheers,
Burls

You rock, Burls! Completely unselfish act, yet not a bit surprising! So glad to see two families headed home safe. I felt awful that I had left my spare set home. I had carried them to every CF event until this year! I guess I really need a Wagon!!!

Can't wait to get together again with this krewe at the next opportunity!

Chuck and Lisa, you guys are a class act and fantastic example of the selflessness which defines this group. Both Of y'all offered to send me your stock axles.

That's what it's all about. The feeling of helping others is far greater than any prize I might have won. Besides seeing Ray and his family smiling again and enjoying the event was the best prize I could have won.... Except maybe that cooler. ;)
