426 Maggie Build

447 posts in this topic

Against a lot of great advice for a 392/Maggie build which does seem to be the better build, I figure, FUCK IT!, I'm going to drop in a 426 and see what that bitch can do!

First step complete - Ordered:

Arrington 426 Long Block

72lb 750cc fuel injectors

Super damper 17% over driven

McLeod RXT clutch

Driveshaft safety loop - you that son of a bitch is going break

...and an AJ tune!

I still need to order axles but full rear end is not going to happen just yet.

I'll also have the rims widened to get more rubber on the road.

This should be a good time.

When I'm not working on the car, I will be trying to make a few extra bucks...

Good for you Murray! When's the engine going to arrive, and when are you going to start?

It sounds like it may be 30 days for the engine, but I'll be able to keep busy pulling the 392. I want to get the 426 in as quick as possible after it arrives because I may need to move out to the double car garage that I will be working in. This place will be going on the market, but want to use the garage up until it sells. If it sells mid way, I will be piling shit up on a tailer and trying to pack it all into a single car garage....not sure how that would work.

A buddy is interested in the 392 but we will need to pull it down to see how much damage there is. Hopefully he can just put in some drop-in pistons (he will not be putting on a blower) and pay me the same or more as the core fee. That's up to him, but something else to fill in the time before the 426 gets here.

My wife is still having trouble understanding why I need a new engine when "the car is less than 2 years old". She also asked me if I could just replace the one piston...good thing I am in sales!

Congrats Murray. Gonna be a sweet build!

My wife doesn't understand the "man and the muscle car" way.

So... in simplest terms I explained it to her this way.

"The way I feel about the RT.... is the same way you feel about a Chanel handbag!"

She gets it now! :D

Congrats again on the new engine. I looked at replacing just the busted pistons and dialing back the boost but that's just way too much work. If you are going to pull it do it right!

Man what a fun filled life you are having, juggling engines/houses but make sure and bring da wife next time we make a Hearne together, she will fit right in with the wives and girlfriends who just laugh and shake their heads at us, think I heard life insurance on the wind behind me once...... Gonna be a sweet ride bruder! :D

My wife wanted new patio furniture. I said no, it's a ridiculous expense. She reminded me about everything I've done to the car. Guess what... new patio furniture is on the way.

Yea, we got no answer for that kind of logic...

Murray, I'd go ahead and get a drive shaft while you're at it. That and axles should keep you good for a while if you don't abuse the car by side stepping the clutch with slicks lol A chromoly is what I have, but an aluminum may be better since it's lighter.

Better get a smaller pulley ordered up as well. 2.65" is the smallest that'll fit unless you have the blower snout machined a bit, then a 2.50" will fit. Jury is still out from my testing on that but I'll know for sure by the time you're ready if it goes faster on a 2.5 or not.

remember... in the end its cheaper to rent ;)

THAT was funny lol

Never get past needing a new engine in a car <2yrs old with the wife. She knows enough to ask a lot of questions regarding "modifications" etc. Good luck with project, sounds sweet.

as was stated previously, there's a KEEPER
