Challengerfest 6 Suggestion Box

71 posts in this topic

While ChallengerFest 5 is fresh on your minds, let's hear some suggestions on how we can improve the event. I can't promise we can incorporate everything suggested, but I'm always open to hearing what people think from a participant perspective. I'm running around so much like a chicken with my head cut off I don't see everything so I rely on those that attend to let me know where the event can be improved. No suggestion will be taken as a complaint, so don't sweat that, I'm not sensitive lol

If your don't want to post it on the forum, or aren't a forum member and are just reading this as a guest, feel free to e-mail those suggestions to me at speedy at speedysgarage dot net, or hit my website www.speedysgarage.net and use the "contact Speedy" link in the upper right hand corner of the page.

One thing I am going to do, is try to put the date a bit later in April next year. Hopefully that'll give us a bit warmer evening weather. The down side will be the likelihood of warmer weather at the track, but I think that's a decent trade off to be able to sit around on truck tail gates in the parking lot looking at all the hot rods.

Wet "T" shirt contest :D

Just gave Tony wear a white T shirt. It'll be wet by the end of the day of sweat from changing all those belts. Plus, he's at least a C cup.

This one is small/simple but help keep everything clean. It would be nice if the hotel could put a few garbage cans out in the lot for us. All they have are their standard ones by the doors that we fill up pretty quickly with BBQ containers and beer cans/bottles. Those always seem to end up overflowing.

Like already mentioned, a microphone would've been handy at the award ceremony. Other than that minor observation, it was a kick ass weekend.

Noted. They had one and I started to use it but people already make fun of me saying I look like George Michael and I didn't wanna give them any more ammo lol

All kidding a side, next year we'll use the mic.

I thought they brought some out. Next year I'll ask them to strategically place them better.

Better weather would certainly lock me in!

Dude, you missed fantastic weather starting 11am Friday. Understand getting there had some weather challenges this year, but 85+ other people did (hint hint)

Other than the microphone and the track mixing street tires and slicks in both lanes, I got nothing.

- parking lot and track BBQ are awesome. Keeps folks close by for more facetime, and not having to run around for food is a huge bonus.

- indoor awards + banquet was brilliant. Best way to close off the event. You could feel the love oozing out of that room.

- racing classes were simple and effective

- using the track staff + FM radio was effective

- Bowling Green location sucks. Needs to be at least 600 miles north and to the east :)

I think you guys nailed this one, and everything else is minor nitpicking.

Thanks for the feedback Denis, good to see you again. You had Malena cracking up.

I talked to the track manager about the slicks in one lane and street tires in the other after someone pointed out to me they weren't being separated. He explained that if we continued with that plan, it would give people in the slick lane an unfair advantage once the racing started as one side of the track would be better than the other, regardless of how much they prepped it. That did make sense to me, right or wrong, so I told him to just go with what they were doing so that everyone was on an even playing field for the races. I look at them as the track experts since it is what they do for a living.

What really need to do is get everyone on at least DRs and then it's no longer an issue lol

So next yr everyone with extras should bring them and rent them for 5 bucks per pass and then donate those proceeds to R4vets. This preserves the integrity of the track and brings in more donations.

and that's why he is a manager and not the guy who does the track prep lol. You run one lane test and tune for slicks only so it will be cheaper to reprep before eliminations, only tearing up the prep on one lane. What happened this year is the track was so cold we needed to run cars down both lanes to get some heat into the track. We decided not to prep again before the 6 speed shoot out since there were only 6 cars. While we were at lunch they repreped the whole track so unlimited came out with fresh prep. Then the bracket races that had a lot of street tires followed next. I explained this to a few people who asked while test and tune was going on.

I hate to say I agree with Canadian on everything but he is spot on. :P

Like maybe Maple Grove Raceway in PA.... ;)

With all the National records set there every year our guys may need to bring a bigger supply of spare axles.

It sure would be a hell of a haul for guys from TX or CA... however the threat of Tornado's & Hail would be near 0% ;)

Of course it's unlikely the owner of M.G. would even want to rent the track... so maybe Atco or Englishtown.

You mean to tell me there were only 6 drivers that were racing all day? Crazy!

I asked them 3 times to put out more cans. there were more put out maybe not enough. the BBQ foam plates take up a lot of real estate. CK.
