Mammoth Cave/bg Area Cruise > Video added post 119

134 posts in this topic
I spoke to the KSP about having them come by to sell tickets to their Challenger Raffle Friday night or Saturday and the PAO offered to have the troopers do an escorted cruise/tour through the area on Friday morning. This would be through the Mammoth Cave area and might be a very nice ride. He said it is normally about two hours and about 70-80 miles.

This is something they do with the Corvette groups and I guess it goes well. He mentioned that they may be able to get us involved with the Wounded Warriors program at Ft. Campbell to bring some of them along as well.

Any interest?

would this be after the morning shoot?
I got the impression that it could be whenever we wanted as long as we let them know how many and what time about two weeks so they can schedule the troopers for the escort.

I think I would be down for that. Always nice to see things in the area you travel to. Your better half (Way better) has the Gun range deal going on Friday Morning also. Don't need you in the Dog House.

The range is up by the park. I wonder if we could start there and cruise back....Hmmmmm....

Or start the cruise at 11:30 go by the range to pick up the shooters at 12:00. That would still get us back for 2:30-3:00 for detailing before the show at 7PM

I think it would be cool to do it where we could bring some of the Wounded Warriors along! Just my .02. Even if it means no range. Or if we could make the trip longer and spend some time with the WW at the range if that is ok. Don't know if range trips are kosher with wounded or PTSD.

Lisa what time are you planning on the shooting range? I am heading up Friday morning from ATL.

The ride sounds cool Chuck. Once the time is set I'll know better what I can do.

If you do a cave tour
http://www.nps.gov/maca/index.htm
which I highly recommend. Make sure to get tickets or reservations, it does not cost much and the tours sell out pretty quick. If you have kids the whole cave city area http://www.cavecity.com/attractions.htm has a ton of crap to do.

Range opens at 9 am which was my original plan for being there. But is we combine it with a drive and WW it would be later. We would have to work out a schedule with KYSP and WW.

Hot damn you guys are over achievers... Can't we just donate money....

I guess I'll have to bring my regular wheels. I was planning on rolling in with the Bogarts and be loaded for bear, drinking when not at the track. You all keep stacking activities that require sobriety and Tylenol...

I am in if Sam is in. Would be nice to play "Cat n Mouse" on the Interstate with Sam.

Hmmmm... who is the Cat? Who will be the mouse?

Here's an idea. Let's rent a bus to take all of the MMF wives far, far away to go shopping for the day!!!! All the men are left behind. We can over drink, smoke, swear, fart and stare at other women while our wives are away!

Man... I do come up with some great ideas eh!

I know, I know.... yawls can thank me later.

This sounds fun. It's a beautiful area. Cave tours can take a one to several hours depending on what you chose, so keep that in mind, the drive would just be around the area.

I'm down.
Yes the tours can be as short as 1 hour or as long as 6 hours, so plan accordingly. As far as the escorted drive, I have driven down country roads in traffic before. I will man the parking lot at the hotel.
