Knownman

I'm Keeping It!

That's what I can say now. For that I have to thank Mike for the tune on my 09 SRT8 6 speed with the KenneBell 2.8.

I was starting to really have doubts about keeping the supercharger on this car. Bought the car new in 2010 from the showroom. I finally got the cash to splurge and get the notorious Kenne Bell I had longed for since I can remember.

Then came the tuning.

I got hooked up with another "known" tuner who specializes in this setup. The story is long but to narrow it down I have about 9 or 10 tunes from this tuner. Not one of them was really very good. Each had their own little problem. Most had knock issues.

Fast forward two years and I'm contemplating pulling the whole thing off.

So then I get a PM from my buddy Speedy.

He goes on about how well Mike got his OrangeCrush running.....

I decided to give it a go. I was feeling a bit stingy by now with my money, I have a new born so you all understand, but I figured I would try one last thing.

So I order it up and tell Mike why I'm here. He starts off with a tune and a set of instructions! I'm not kidding! He lists how to load the tunes and what to check for. Then he asks for a set of PIDs from the Trinity for his dashboard. This is a sign of a guy who has his shit in order.

It took us a few shots to get the basic tune dialed in. Apparently all MAP sensors are not the same and I have a weird one. Then we discovered a few other unique differences with my car like the injectors. I should say Mike figured them out. I only load the tunes, and logged the runs.

I really didn't get it at first. I thought each car was just like the last. I figured he should be able to plug in the codes and off I would go....

It's not all that easy. Especially when the car is a KB blown 6 speed.

Mike just kept on asking for logs and tweaking the tune. All of a sudden the car started to do something I couldn't remember it doing in a long time. It started to just get fun to drive!

So then Mike starts asking me how I want the boost to come in? And try this and see what you think? I can't begin to explain how different that experience is from my old tuner but suffice to say I wouldn't think of going anywhere else ever again!

Speedy was right. This guy is tenacious. He is also skilled. He just gets into figuring out what the hell is going on inside that black box and then he makes it work.

So one of the thing I hadn't ever done before was to drive the car in the rain. This was both a combination of trying to be a garage queen, and more importantly being afraid of driving in the wet with that twin screw. I just couldn't predict how hard the boost would come on or when with my old tunes.

Well as luck would have it, my misses had to take the Honda early to work and I was left having to drive in the RAIN.

It was awesome. I had so much fun. I could get that boost to drop in soft enough it wouldn't blow out the tires and it was down pouring.

The best part now is that I can ease into boost, I can accelerate with mid boost to get around someone, or I can drop into full boost and see if the tires will hold? Which they kind of don't in three or four gears. All of this and I'm not seeing any knock ST. That was probably the hardest thing to overcome on my old tunes. Anytime I tried to make a lane change without downshifting and dropped into boost the car would either lug, or it would knock and then bog a bit.

The logs always made me worry that I was going to det the engine unless I drove like a bat out of hell everywhere.

Mike really made me keep the blower.

Thank You

Matt

Good deal, Its always good to hear when it all works out for someone.

You can spend all the money you want on a build but if your tuner has his head up his ass its worthless I have seen more than a few folks give up on builds because the car was no longer fun to drive or it didn't produce the power it should.

Matt, I am thrilled to hear you finally got the tune right and the car is a blast to drive again. I have been hearing nothing but good about Mike and will definately keep an eye open.

Matt,

I am glad to hear you are enjoying your ride again! Thanks for the really cool post too! I do appreciate it.

Don't forget that you still have a "Race" tune coming if you are interested :)

Are you coming to Challengerfest 4?

Thanks Mike. I still have to get the last one loaded and hit the streets. Weather decided to give us some snow.

I'll be able to get some 100 octane Sunoco and I'll put that 9lb pulley on the car for the race tune.

Cool beans.

BTW - We are pretty serious about Honda tuning too. Believe it or not the Honda is a really hi-tech hemi. So don't hesitate to talk to me about performance mods and tuning when you are ready to spin it up to 10,000 rpm :)

I told you a year ago Adam sucked

I said that two years ago and got flamed for it big time.

Regardless glad your fixed up and happy sucks to have a car your not satisfied with.

New to the forum and just read your 3 year old post about the KenneBell 2.8 on your 2009 Challenger SRT 6 speed. In the post you indicated problems with the way the supercharger performed after the install and had to have the ECU retuned.

Did you purchase the full kit with the Diablo tuner and the KenneBell supplied tune or did you purchase the "tuner" kit and have someone else setup the tune for you???

I also have a 2009 SRT 6 speed and am considering a KenneBell kit. If you purchased the complete kit, was the supplied tune no good??? Was your vehicle stock, engine wise at least, other than the supercharger before you installed it???

I'd really appreciate your take on this. Thanks.
